Her name is Melody. Tan Skin, Brown eyes, lean body, and trying to make her peers view her as something special. She thinks lowly of herself — personality wise. The only thing she is really confident in is her looks. She knows this because of the attention. The attention from boys. Like any teenage girl the attention from boys makes her feel special, and that's how she wants to be viewed.

She knows many people, but taking advice from her older cousin meant keeping her circle small. Her Best friend Vivianne is someone she admires. They went through alot together but vivianne passed Math 1, Melody had to repeat it.

As everyone else's summer began, her next class did. In room 620 she walked in to see only one recognizable face — Carter. Her and carter were like a bickering couple, in a best friend way.

"I knew you were in this class! I told you Kiera." Carter said.

Melody smiled, "Yeah. Just missed a day that's all."

"Since you missed a day, all seats are taken except the one in front of me." Carter said in a joyful tone, now taking her seat.

"Okay." Melody had said, as she sat down she looked back to make eye contact with a boy.

He wasn't exactly the most attractive. Definitley not her "type". Somehow he caught her eye. She lightly turned her head to get another look of him. Her first thought — not special. She was still curious though. The teacher walked in and began the class.

As class ended, Carter and her made plans to hangout on the weekend. She caught one last look of him as they walked out the building. Melody was going to talk to him, just not now. Tomorrow she thought.

As the day passed she got ready for the next. Did homework, took a shower, and got ready for bed. As she laid down her last thought was about him.

A not so charming boy, who wore the not so best attire. Somehow he still attracted Melody's attention.

She woke up the next morning and made herself look better than yesterday. Put on a cute outfit and did her hair. Once done, her father drove her to school. They said their goodbye's as she went into the school.

She sat in her seat as Carter showed.

"What's up with you?" Carter said.

"What do you mean I always get dressed up?" Melody said.

"I know you do. But yesterday you literally showed up in your slides. Let's not forget your pajama hoodie." She said as Melody just rolled her eyes.

"I wanna make a better impression." Melody smirked.

"Uh-huh." Carter said and sat down.

Class began and Melody was mainly thinking about how to approuch him. So once the teacher allowed them to have a mini break — she knew this was her chance. She turned around only for Carters pencil case to open and have everything fall out.

She got on the floor to pick up the pencils and so did someone else, him. She looked at him and before he looked at her too, she looked away. Once all the pencils were picked up Carter said 'thanks' to both of them.

They went back to their seats, and Melody failed her quest. She didn't talk to him.

Once she got home, she was a little upset. Though thanks to the internet, she could text him through Insta. She knew his account because of Carter. Well Carter's following. His account was his name spelled backwards — ekaj.

She had texted him: 'Hey, this is the girl from your math.'

About 3 hours later he replied. Her being the genius she is, she replied 30 seconds after.

He said: 'Hi, you are the girl who sits in front of Carter.'

She had said: 'yeah.'

This little push Melody did. Finally talking to him, she completed the quest. They began to talk for hours everyday.

But if only she knew how this would drain her. What should have stayed as a summer fling turned into a first love — one sided.

-

It was a sunday night, Carter and Melody were laughing. Having their moment — bonding. They decided to dare eachother into asking out guys, 5 each.

Carter actually asked out someone she liked, so did Melody. Both secretly wanting the boys to say yes. Something that will make them both feel special. One girl got the response she wanted as the other didn't.

Melody got the yes she wanted from Jake. As Carter got rejected. As much as she pretended it didn't hurt her Melody knew it hurt. Both girls went to bed that night with separate emotions. Carter went on to be okay.

As for the other this was the beginning of Melody's first love.

As time went on Melody began falling for him. They had their first kiss in theater 1, 2nd row. Shortly after they began dating in July. Their first I love you's August 16. She really fell for him. She loved him. But what was it to him?

They began their first fight because of his family. Something they never really confronted. Something they never spoke about. As teenagers complaining about parents was normal — nothing new. But with someone you like, the world stops and you want to be there for them. That's what Melody did for him — constantly. She turned into something she never wanted to be vulnerable.

She was being viewed as vulnerable to everyone. Not special.

She was always there for him, but he was rarely there for her. Something she didn't think about until Vivianne brought it up. It was now the only problem as it went on for a month. Because he wouldn't try.

Melody did something right she took a break. Sadly she fell for him so hard she couldn't be without him. She felt she needed him. She ended the break.

Something felt different. Melody felt she was loosing him. He wasn't trying but she still wanted him. She would do anything to keep him. That's how much she loved him.

She did something she would soon regret.

She gave herself up, her first — to keep someone. Someone who could care less to keep her.

He ended up just using her, but as long as she was with him she felt okay.

Until he left.

Her first love showed her how cruel the world really was. She realized she could've avoided this pain if she just did what every teenager did. If she ended things after the first fight. Instead she fought for him, someone who didn't fight for her.
