" I do not want your admiration now,

because I do not want

your insults in the future.

I bear with my loneliness now,

in order to avoid greater loneliness

in the years ahead. You see, loneliness

is the price we have to pay

for being born in this modern age,

so full of  freedom, independence,

and our own egotistical selves."

"...Hello?"

She spoke with a sense of urgency as Oikawa nestled the phone between his ear and shoulder.

"Hey, Tooru. Are you alright?
...You don't sound too good."

"Uhh? Oh, it's nothing. I'm fine mom. Is something wrong? Why'd you call so late?"

He heard the jingling of keys and the start of a car.
She gave him a blunt response, still laced with her usual mild mannerism. Oikawa could immediately gather she was agitated at something.

She sighed. "Tooru? Are you okay? Did you go to the hospital yet?" "Hmm?"
"Tomo called me and told me what happened. I'm going by theirs in a few."
Through the phone he could hear the revving of the engine and the wheels as they sped off the pavement.

"Mom. It's fine... It'll just add unnecessary drama. Their family doesn't need that... I'm fine really."

"Unnecessary drama my ass. I don't give a damn. She should've thought about that before putting her hands on my son. She and those circumstances can jump in a river for all I care.—"
