Narcissa remembers the day she met her mate. It was the second best feeling in the world. The first best being holding their child for the first time. She remembered the late nights of their head in her lap as they stared at the stars, Lucius covering for her absence.

You see, Narcissa and Lucius had different mates but were forced to marry each other due to their parents hating their mates. They allowed each other to be with their own mates though, and they lived comfortably as friends.

Draco wasn't Lucius's kid either, he was the son of her mate's. Rem, her mate, was classified as a squib, unable to use magic but they could morph their body. Draco had inherited that ability and morphed to look like his adopted father.

But mates can also be a source of pain. Years ago, shortly before Narcissa discovered she was pregnant with Draco, Rem was killed by Death Eaters. Rem had worked with the Light and fought hard without magic, using Muggle weapons to make up for their lack of magic. Narcissa pled for Rem not to fight, but they went anyway, promising to return but never did. Months later, Draco was born. Narcissa and Lucius hid him from the world to make sure no one found out that he was Rem's son and not Lucius's. Rem's brother taught Draco how to morph with the help of his young daughter, Nymphadora. Narcissa was sad when she watched Draco morph into a version of her husband, losing the beautiful cyan locks that mimicked her mate's so closely, replacing it with short, white blond hair to mimic the elder blond.

She was honestly upset after Draco came into his inheritance during the summer, not wanting it to happen while there was a war, while there was a chance he could lose his mate like how she lost hers. The entire reason she hadn't died from the loss was because of Draco, of Rem's baby. Her duty was to their son and she couldn't afford to follow her mate.

Lucius also remembered the day he found his mate. Unlike Narcissa, they hadn't had a child together so he could safely say it was the best feeling he'd ever felt. Second best was knowing Narcissa wished for Lucius to adopt her son, so he'd have a father figure. Of course he would've done that for her without asking, she was his best friend, but the fact she acknowledged him as father to her and her mate's child was an amazing honor. He and Severus would often just sit together and read for hours on end, occasional chatter but it was mostly a comfortable silence between them, as Lucius felt all mates should be able to do. Not one awkward silence between them.

Severus, as Lucius's mate, was named the godfather to Narcissa's son, and the three raised him together. He knew it made Severus happy to have someone as precious as Draco in his life after the loss of Lily, someone who he saw as a sister. Lucius knew Narcissa and Severus often comforted each other over mutual loss, and he was always there to help them.

Lucius knew how Narcissa worried over Draco and his mate, and he was there to comfort her, making sure she knew that they would help make sure that never happened. He, though, was very excited and he knew Draco was too. Draco always saw how happy Lucius and Severus were and wanted that.

Draco though, he was terrified. He knew how it affected Narcissa when his parent died. He was scared that it would happen to him too.

But at the same time he saw the happiness that it brought his adoptive father and godfather, and he wanted that for himself. When he finally came into his inheritance he immediately wanted to go find his mate, but he had to wait until he'd gotten to Hogwarts, if his mate was even there.

Draco currently sat in his room, his mother brushing the long cyan locks of hair that fell down his back, resembling that of a waterfall. His green eyes focused on a picture frame. It was of his mother and her mate, Rem.

He leaned back, gently laying himself in his mother's lap.

"Mama?"

Narcissa smiled down at him, "yes darling?"

"Can you tell me more about Rem?"

The smile turned sad but she nodded.

"You get more and more like them everyday, my dear. They were brave, loyal, and caring. So, so caring. They were a troublemaker and had quite the knack as well for getting into trouble. Rem would've been so happy to be your parent, Draco. You're such a kind boy, despite the act we put up for the media. If I didn't know any better, I could say you're like their little brother, not their son. Years ago, when we first met and I discovered we were mates, they were probably the most understanding I've seen of most mates. Even Severus took a while for Lucius to win over. They immediately wished to be around me, learn about me, and share the same information. At one point I even had to kick them out, just wanting a bit of privacy to read. But they were determined and got in through the window. I expected to be annoyed by them, and have to kick them out again, but they didn't. They just found a book from a shelf and sat next to me. We barely even realized it at the time but we changed so I was sitting in their lap, my head on their shoulder, occasionally giggling and showing each other funny parts of our books."

"Mama...do you think my mate will be like that?" Draco asked hopefully.

"I think you're enough like Rem that you'll have your moments too, just it'll be the other way around, even if they aren't the most accepting at first."

"Thank you mama."

"Always, darling."

"Oh, and Mama?"

"Hmm?" She hummed.

"You, Sev and Luci said one of you had to accompany me to Hogwarts because of the mate pull, right?"

"Yes?"

"Can you come with me?"

Narcissa smiled and nodded. Draco grinned and sat up, allowing his mother to continue styling his hair.
