•Chapter Four•

Start from the beginning

"Code orange!" Walter shouted up to the intercom above the doors.

He realized those same words had been shouted by that skinny, frail looking man named Troy. Which resulted in him being knocked out for the second time.

He hated having to do things against his will.

He hopped down from the cot, making a heavy thudding sound and Walter whipped his head back, terrified. He shouted even louder, "CODE ORANGE! SOMEONE! ANYONE! HELP!"

He began to stride towards Walter, fists clenched and anticipation building as he neared the old man. The tension in his arms was excruciating; the need to punch something making his heart pound and his hands brace for impact.

"Aubrey, stop!"

And that he did. Dead in his tracks.

He didn't know whether it was in his head or out loud. The words seemed to surround him, coming from every direction, assaulting his ears with sound and making him recoil slightly. He raised his eyebrows in confusion. The voice sounded familiar, and so did the name that was mentioned.

Who the hell is Aubrey?

It's me, you dumbass, said another voice, in his head this time.

That did it.

Memories, flashbacks, everything came back to him. Like someone was throwing his memories at him. He remembered each and every one of them. The one that intrigued him the most was of a girl with dyed light brown hair, full red lips and a body to die for. Her hazel eyes glinted with tears, shining with emotion he couldn't put his finger on. In fact, she was standing directly in front of him, at least he thought so. His vision was slightly blurry and her face was hard to focus on, like he was in a dream.

Cristal? he asked either in his head or out loud, he couldn't tell.

"Yes, Aubrey?" Her lips weren't moving. So he must be in some sort of flashback or something. The whole situation was confusing. Her voice reverberated through his head and reached his ears, although her figure was fading in and out like a hologram. It was like the rest of the world had fallen away; he was floating in some sea of darkness and Cristal was levitating across from him.

Who's Aubrey? he asked.

"It's you, silly."

Is it really?

"Yes. And I love that name."

A memory revealed itself. I thought you hated that name.

"I did. But that was before."

And she faded away.

Aubrey blinked a couple of times. After the fifth time, he found himself on the floor, his face pressed against cold concrete. He winced at the throbbing in his head and lifted himself up to lean against the wall behind him. He then frowned.

Aubrey was currently being held captive in a small room with three walls of concrete. The fourth one was a see-through light red. He got up slowly and pressed both hands to it but was met with a searing burning sensation, making him hiss loudly and back away. He looked down at his hands which were now an angry red, and sighed.
