Gold woke up on the morning of the Trial with his plans memorised and Sirius Black's room ready in the manor. Apparently the Potter's already had a room for the man they considered family. As he was walking down the stairs in a suit with professional robes over the top, the fireplace roared to life with Severus walking out of it, his expanded shrunken trunk in his hand and his face worried.
"What's wrong?" Gold asked, moving to the sofa to take a seat. Severus put his trunk on the table and sat down before explaining. "Dumbledore came to Spinners end and all but ordered me to come to the death eater trials today. I'm worried that he may try something."
"There is little need to worry Severus, I have plans for whatever he may try." Gold calmed Severus, "now come and have some breakfast before you leave. Remus should be feeding Rosie right about now."
They stood from the seat and walked to the kitchen to find Remus trying to get Hecate to eat. Once he saw them walk in he handed the spoon to Severus and went to sit by his breakfast mumbling about 'fussy Bambi'.
"Remus, while we are at the trial you should go to the bank and get the test done." Gold suggested. "But I want to be..." Remus started before Severus cut him off. "Lupin, Dumbledore will be distracted with the trials today and will by unable to stop you from going for the test so use this advantage while you can. I'm sure the mutt will be fine without you in the room if it's for a good reason." While still hesitant, Remus agreed and left to get dressed into his best robes while Gold and Severus discussed the plans for the trial.
-Time skip-
When he walked into the ministry entrance, a full 2 hours before the trial was due to start at 9:30, Gold could honestly say he felt pity for the creatures of this world.
'Halfway down the hall was a fountain. A group of golden statues, larger than life-size, stood in the middle of a circular pool. Tallest of them all was a noble-looking wizard with his wand pointing straight up in the air. Grouped around him were a beautiful witch, a centaur, a goblin, and a house-elf. The last three were all looking adoringly up at the witch and wizard. Glittering jets of water were flying from the ends of the two wands, the point of the centaur's arrow, the tip of the goblin's hat, and each of the house-elf's ears.'
(Quoted from the Harry Potter wiki.)
Knowing what he did about this world, Gold knew that the only things a centaur would look up to is the stars and goblins look down on most wizards and witches. That this abomination even exists would encourage war.
He continued on to the court room shaking his head in disgust.
The first thing he noticed when he walked in the almost full court room 20 minutes later was Albus Dumbledore at the top of the seats with Severus standing behind him. To anyone else the potions master would seem calm but Gold saw the stress and worry in his form.
Once the trials started Gold took his seat at the front to wait, though he didn't have to wait very long as just after 10 minutes had gone by Crouch senior spoke as Sirius was being dragged to the chained chair . "The first trial of the day is Sirius Black, who is being tried for being a death eater, the murder of Peter Pettigrew, 13 muggles and accessory to the murder of James and Lily Potter and attempted murder of Harriet Potter. How does the defendant plea?" "Not guilty." Gold announced to the room while walking to the centre. "And considering joining a dark lord is not against the law and is only frowned upon, I do hope you've asked those you're arresting more questions than just 'Are you a death eater?' dearie." The room was filled with whispering as they saw him walking to stand by Sirius, who had turned to look at him in confusion. "Mr. Gold, I presume." Crouch Sr sneered at him. "Is there a first name to go on the record? As I'm sure you know we need your first name to be able to accept you as Mr Blacks Defendant." "Of course, though it's a bit of a mouthful." Gold replied. It was silent for a moment before Crouch Sr shouted out "well, what is it then!?" "There's no need to shout dearie, I'm not that far away." Gold replied. Crouch sneered once again before Gold answered him. "My name is Rumplestiltskin Baelfire Gold, but my friends usually call me either Rumple or Gold." Once he finished introducing himself he heard snickers coming from Sirius. "Is there something you'd like to add, Dearie?" Sirius shook his head before biting his lip to try and stop his laughter while the trial continued.
How should the trial go? Should Gold save Crouch Jr from Azkaban and get information from a different side of the war? Should the Ministry attempt an illegal execution via dementors?
