"My lord, it pains me to see you go."
Gilbert paused before the door handle, "Trust me, Lovino. I would not if I did not have to..."
"Sire, I..." The servant searched for a reason, any reason.
Gilbert stood there for a moment until he finally looked up from the ornate handle. He approached the man, cape flowing behind nearly knocking over decor. He squared up to his servant and sighed, "May I...?"
Lovino glanced at his lord's eyes and nodded slowly. A gentle touch placed a loose hair behind his ear, the warmth lingered. Looking up from the ground, his gaze matched with that of dreams and tales. Something wanted by anyone. He swallowed, "You'll be going to your death, lord. The King, he will not let-"
"I know what he will do to me."
"Then why face him? Why ride to your death?" The servant stated, his brow furrowed, "You are one of his greatest men, surely you can negotiate a way out!"
The warmth left Lovino's cheek as his lord chuckled, "I am afraid this is something I cannot escape, no matter my status..." Gilbert turned, walking away to his predicted fate.
Lovino shook his head and faced away not wanting to deal with the situation at hand. He picked up his cleaning rag and basket, ready to carry out his duties for a man who will never see the result. His lord's footsteps grew further and further away, echoing in his mind.
    "Stop."
    They paused.
    "Let's...let's run away."
    Silence filled the room.
"Tonight. We can get across the river." Lovino dared not to look up. This plan was outrageous as well as asking a lot of his lord, this much he knew. No nobleman would be willing to give up his land or wealth, even when faced with death. The silence placed a building pressure on him, his heart and mind raced thinking about what would happen to him. A mere servant like him asking a man, who valued loyalty above all other attributes, to abandon the king he has served his entire life, he could not see Gilbert forgiving him.
    "And then where?"
His gaze shot towards the other man. "To a neighboring kingdom, sire. Perhaps an enemy of the King's-?"
Pounding resounded through the hall, the King's Guard growing impatient.
Gilbert pondered the idea and slowly walked to Lovino once again with a crooked smile, "Well, let us go then."
