*ring*

The phone rang its daily morning alarm, but there was no response. It kept ringing a few more times before Shiro finally got up, hair disheveled, with his earphones entangled around his body, one around his neck, the other under his shoulder. He groggily ended the alarm and got out of bed, not eager to start the day.

After getting ready he headed downstairs, where his mom was seated at the dining table, already eating breakfast.

"Good morning, Shiro!" She greeted him happily, "come sit down, I've already made breakfast."

"Morning, mom", he replied as he sat down to start eating.

"Will Akio pick you up again?" She asked, grinning,

to which he rolled his eyes in response,"Mom, you already know the answer to that."

She giggled, "Hihi of course. He's been such a great friend to you, you've been walking to school together since grade school! Oh, how time flies, and now suddenly you'll both be college soon.", she sighed.

Shiro chuckled, "Hey, what made you so nostalgic today?"

"Ohh I don't know," she laughed quietly, " I guess it just happens as you get older."

At that moment, the doorbell rang, which made both of them glance towards the door.

"Ooh that must be Akio! Come on now, don't keep him waiting!", she said in a cheerful tone.

Shiro got up and placed his dishes in the sink,

"Got it got it, bye!", he said to her as he headed out the door.

Shiro then closed the door behind him and greeted his best friend, "Morning, Akio!"

Akio smiled warmly at him, "Good morning, Shiro! Sleep well?"

"Yeah, I fell asleep watching gameplays again" Shiro said and chuckled.

But Akio looked at him worriedly, "Whatt, you know that's not good, your earphones could get tangled up around you, it might even choke you y'know!"

Shiro laughed at the thought, "Oh c'mon, I'm not that weak!"

But Akio then wrapped an arm around his shoulders, "I just don't want anything happening to you, you're important to me.", he said in an endearing tone, while looking down at Shiro's face.

Shiro looked up and smiled brightly at him, creating a warm feeling in Akio's chest, and said,
"Haha thanks man, so are you, I'm really glad we're friends."

Normally, some might think of Akio's words and actions as odd towards someone who's "just a friend",
but not to Shiro, because he was already used to it. They've been friends since pre school, and Akio's always been this way towards him, following him around and being affectionate no matter where they were.
So naturally, Shiro's come to pass it off as it merely being Akio's true nature, and now thinks nothing of it.

"Not just friends, Shiro.", Akio said, still looking at him but now with a more serious expression, his arm still around Shiro.

"Huh?" Shiro looked at him, confused.

"We're not just friends. I'm not at the same level to you as those other people right?" Akio asked, still serious.

"What do you mean? Oh!" Shiro's face lit up once more,
"Of course not Akio! You're my best friend after all!" , he gleamed.

"Huh.", Akio scoffed, while looking away and dropping his arm from Shiro's shoulders,
"That'll do for now.", he muttered under his breath.

"Huh? Did you say something Akio?", Shiro asked.

Akio smiled back at him, "Hm? Nope!"

They arrived to school, and as they walked into the classroom, a blonde male called out to them from his seat,

"Morning, guys!", he said smiling.

"Heyy, Hansuke! 'Morning", Shiro joyfully replied.

"Hello", Akio replied rather dryly.

As Shiro reached his desk, Hansuke went up to him and jokingly hugged him, whining,

"Ahhh..help me, Shirooo! Nicole is ignoring me agaaain!"

"Whaaat you guys are fighting again?? It's probably your fault.", Shiro laughed.

"Whattt how cruel, Shiro! I've always been the best boyfriend! A real life prince!"

"Yeah, right! More like a frog! You're lucky you got to score such a hottie!", Shiro laughed again.

And as the two boys joked around, Hansuke felt a gaze boring into his back. He looked back and true enough, saw Akio glaring at him.

He turned back to Shiro and whispered, "Your boyfriend is getting jealous again."

"Huh?", Shiro replied in a confused tone.

As they both turned to look at Akio, his glare suddenly disappeared, instead turning into a gentle smile.

Shiro looked at Hansuke, " You must be seeing things. Did the fight with Nicole make you so sad that you're starting to hallucinate??", He laughed.

"C'mon man don't add salt to my wounded heart~", he whined in a faux attempt to sound dramatic.

Shiro laughed and jokingly pushed Hansuke off of him, "Gross!"

Akio stared as the two continued to mess around.
"Stop touching him like that." , he thought to himself, "That damn Hansuke always getting too close to MY Shiro. It should've been me that was assigned to sit beside him, I know him better than you ever will."
Suddenly, his train of thought was stopped by the ringing of the first bell.
He sighed, class was about to begin.

During second period Shiro got bored and his mind started to wander off. He looked at Hansuke, who was secretly texting with his phone hidden under his desk, his expression visibly stressed.

"Probably texting his girlfriend", Shiro silently chuckled to himself.

Hansuke and Nicole always fought, sometimes they were all lovey-dovey, then the next thing you know, they're fighting again and she's ignoring him.

Shiro internally sighed, "What a stressful situation to be in, I mean, yeah she's really pretty, but with how often they fight, is it really worth it??"
Shiro stopped mid-thought and remembered what Nicole looked like, she was a transfer student from France and was of mixed race. She had long, wavy light brown hair that fell to her waist, almond-shaped green eyes, and curves in all the right places.
When she transferred to their school word of her beauty spread like wildfire and she easily became one of the most popular girls in school. A lot of the guys also adored her french accent.

"Hang in there, Hansuke!", thought Shiro, "But, looking at Hansuke, he's not ugly or anything, I mean, he plays basketball so he's got a nice build, and last year on Valentines he got a good amount of chocolates too!", Shiro remembered enviously. "Hmm..I wish I was that popular, heh, but first I gotta get that tall."

He was 5'5.

"Damn our short genes!!", he exclaimed in his mind.
His train of thought was cut short by the bell, second period was over.
Hansuke was still glued to his phone, which was no longer hidden, continuously typing away.
Suddenly, a hand slammed down on Shiro's desk, and he looked up startled, it was Akio, looking down at him with an annoyed expression on his face.

"Oh, hey! You surprised me!", Shiro awkwardly laughed, "sorry, I was spacing out."

"Oh really.", Akio said, still annoyed.

He held Shiro's hand and pulled him up, then led him out of the classroom.

"Akio?? Where are we going??", Shiro asked, confused.

But Akio remained silent and led him up to the rooftop balcony.
