A Broken Quirk

Izuku went to bed, excited to find out what his quirk would be the next day.

When he woke up, he found that something was different. His feet were replaced with a hawk's talons.

Three toes on the front, one on the back of each.

It looked wrong to him.

Izuku jumped out of bed, and started running out to find his mom. He was suprised he could run with his new feet.

"Mama! Mama! I have my quirk!" He called out, finding his mom in the kitchen making breakfast.

Inko turned to look at him, smiling. "Oh, well what is it, sweetie?"

He raised his leg slightly, showing her his new talons.

He was four at the time. Everyone thought that was the full extent of his quirk.

But they were proven wrong one his fifth birthday. That day, he woke up with lizard scales.

His entire body was covered, other than his head, talons, and the palms of his hands.

Inko took him too the quirk doctor that day.

"We have some.. unfortunate news.." the doctor said. Inko looked at Izuku, worried, "what is it?"

The doctor sighed "there's something wrong with Izuku's quirk factor. Unfortunately, we can't identify what it is or how to fix it. He's going to mutate like this every year or so. We're not sure whether or not he'll ever stop mutating, but if we find a cure, we'll be sure to tell you."

Inko nodded slowly, while Izuku just sat there with a shocked look.

Afterwards, his quirk was named "Monster", because the quirk doctors thought he would end up similar to a monster due to all the mutations he would undergo.

He started writing down each mutation as they appeared.

Age 4 - hawk talons. Does as would be expected

Age 5 - scales. They function as a sort of armor

Age 6 - claws. My fingers have sharp claws on them.

Age 7 - my ears changed into fennec fox ears. They don't affect my hearing, so they probably only help keep me cool (not that I need it. I don't live anywhere hot.)

Age 8 - snake. I have fangs, a snake tounge, and venomous spit.

Age 9 - stinger. I have a scorpion tail with a stinger on the end.

Age 10 - vines. There are vines growing around my arms. They don't do anything. Weird..

Age 11 - whiskers. They're like cat whiskers, and they work about the same

Age 12 - wings. They're similar to a dragon's wings, if dragons were real.

Age 13 - internal mutation, I have a lot more joints than normal, meaning I'm way more flexible.

Age 14 - horns. I have goat horns, for some reason.

Leading to where he was now. A fourteen year old boy who was stressed and lonely. He had no friends, his teachers hated him, and the only person supporting him was his mom.

His mom, who always told him that he could be a hero, even with such a monstrous quirk.

Izuku was walking to school, like he would any other day. He ignored the stares that he always got, as he continued trudging along.

There was a hero fight. He figured that he could probably watch the fight and still have enough time to get to school.

It wasn't a big deal, really. Some guy with a quirk that made him larger had stolen somebody's purse.

There was a large crowd around the scene, with plenty of muttering going around. "Who's fighting him?!" Izuku asked excitedly. A second later, he saw none other than Kamui Woods on top of the roof of the train station. "Illegal use of abilities during rush hour, as well as robbery and assault?" Kamui said, "you're pure evil."

His arm began sprouting branches, which launched at the villain. "Here it comes! Its his 'Preemptive Binding Lacquered Chain Prison'!!!" Izuku gushed.

Before the hero could finish his attack, another hero, Mount Lady, kicked the villain in the face, yelling "Canyon cannon!!"

In the end, Mount Lady got all the credit.

Izuku continued on his way to school.

He sat down in his seat, avoiding Bakugou, whom he called "Kacchan".

Then the teacher came in, saying "alright class, your third years now, so you need to start thinking seriously about your futures."

He slapped a stack of paper, "I would pass out these career tests, but you all want to be heroes!" the teacher yelled, throwing the papers. The rest of the class started showing off their quirks, before Bakugou said, "hey teach, don't lump me in with the rest of these extras! They'll be lucky to end up sidekicks to some busted D lister! I'm the real deal! I'm gonna go to UA! I passed all the mock exams, so I'll get in for sure!"

The teacher looked at a paper, before saying "oh yeah, didn't you want to go to UA too, Midoryia?"

The boy in question whimpered, burying his head into his arms, instantly recognizing the pressure the class gave off.

Everyone burst into laughter, while Bakugou became intensely angry. He stomped over to Izuku's desk, before growling, "so you want to compete with me, eh? A freak of nature like you could never become a hero!"

"N-no, i-it's not l-like that at all! I-I've j-just w-wanted to be a hero ever s-since I was l-little, a-and I thought it wouldn't h-hurt to t-try..."

"Try?! You plan on trying?! UA is for the best of the best, your just a pathetic monster!!!" Bakugou yelled at him.

"W-well y-yeah, m-my mutations a-are r-really w-weird, b-but.."

"But nothing! Don't even try, Deku!"

Izuku couldn't believe it. A monstrosity such as himself, standing face to face with All Might, the number one hero.

"Hey, All Might? Before you take that villain to the police, could you please answer a quick question?" Izuku said, abit nervous.

"Yes, what is this question?" All Might responded.

Izuku then began to studder out, "d-do y-y-you think.. a person l-like me c-could be a h-hero l-like you? M-my q-quirk c-causes me to m-mutate randomly, b-but I've always wanted to be able to help others!"

All Might seemed to think about it for a second, before he said "no, I'm afraid not. A quirk like that is far too unpredictable, and would be impossible to train. You might harm a civilian on accident if you became a hero. Now, I have to get this guy to the police." All Might shook one of the bottles containing the sludge villain.

That day, Izuku gave up on his dream.
