This is a soulmate au , but obv its not gonna perfectly match others . In this universe , everyone receive their soulmate mark on their wrist with the initials of their soulmate underneath it, on their 16th birthday . Everyone is destined to meet them , maybe you already know them , maybe nine years after receiving your mark , maybe you already know them .
Even though everyone receives their soulmate mark at 16 , there is gaps . No more then 8 years.
Here , the concept of marriage is also altered . There is a soulmate registry where you register who your soulmate is and show proof with the presence of both partners. You also have to do a ritual which can be done in privacy or with the presence of friends . This usually happens very soon after meeting them , and refusing to do so shows that you reject your bond and refuse to be with that person for unknown reasons , its like an affirmation that you will be with that person. Although everyone has a fated partner , unfortunate cases of domestic abuse and such still occur , therefore its possible to go to the soulmate registry and break your bond . You can also emotionally distance your self from them and the affects of the ritual will be undone after a while , usually a year or so , depending on the person.You can find another partner who also cannot be with their soulmate .
