Colby walked into the hospital room the following day after picking up coffee from downstairs in the cafeteria. He saw his wife freshly showered and dressed as she placed Riley in her going home outfit
"What are you doing?" he asked as he sat the cup of coffee on the table
"Putting her going home outfit on" Rebecca said as she placed socks on her daughter's feet
"For what?" He asked with wide eyes and she looked over at him
"So we can go home" she nodded "The doctor came by and we got discharged while you were spending forever in the cafeteria"
"I was trying to make your coffee not taste like hospital coffee thank you" he grumbled and she rolled her eyes "and go home? All of us?"
"I mean we could just leave you here" she shrugged
"So we just go home?" he asked and she laughed
"We go home" she nodded "Why do you look like you're about to pass out?"
"I-I don't know what to do with her" he pointed at the newborn as Rebecca picked her up
"What are you talking about?" she laughed "We've done it for the last two days"
"We've had nurses!" he exclaimed and Riley began to cry and Rebecca quickly got her quieted back down "We haven't even left yet and I've messed up"
"Hey!" Rebecca said grabbing his face "Relax! You do realize I'm here right? I'm not just giving you our newborn and leaving" she laughed "I've done this part before"
"Yes, but I haven't" he shook his head
"I am well aware" she nodded "It will be okay"
After going back and forth with one another in that room Rebecca finally convinced Colby to go get the carseat from the car.
"She's not too tiny for that?" Colby asked as Rebecca placed the newborn in her carseat and began to buckle her in
"She's fine, she fits just fine" Rebecca said
"She looks so tiny" he said and Rebecca kissed him quickly to quiet him
The drive home was also an adventure, the drive home was supposed to be an hour, it was an hour and a half. An hour and a half with Colby constantly asking Rebecca if Riley was okay and she would answer the same way every time. "She's fast asleep and she's fine" every 5 minutes.
They arrived in their driveway and Colby turned the car off looked back at his wife who had a smile on her face as she unbuckled her seatbelt.
"We're home" she smiled
"We're home" Colby said unsurely as he got out of the driver's seat and got in the backseat to take the carseat out carefully
Walking into the house Rebecca was met by Remi running at her with a hand full of confetti and throwing it at her
"Happy birthday!" the little girl yelled and Rebecca looked at her confused "I didn't know what else to say, I panicked" she said and Rebecca laughed
"Thank you love" Rebecca hugged her daughter
"I made you a sign!" she said pointing at the construction paper sign that was hanging on the wall 'Welcome Home Mommy & Riley!' it read
"It's beautiful! you must have worked hard on that"
"Mimi had to help me spell and Nan helped me with the colors" she said
"Nan helped you?" she asked confused
"She's a very peculiar one" she heard her own mother's voice and she saw her walk down the stairs
"Mom!" Rebecca exclaimed as her mother walked over to her and brought her into a hug "When did you get here?" she asked
"Yesterday" Annette stated with a smile "I couldn't wait any longer to meet my new granddaughter" she smiled and Rebecca looked back at Colby with a smile as he moved from behind her "Oh look at her" Annette smiled as she saw Riley for the first time in person "She's a little doll" she said with her hands over her mouth "Can I hold her?" she looked at her daughter
"Are you kidding? I'd be mad if you didn't" Rebecca nodded
Colby sat the carseat down on the ground and Rebecca unbuckled the newborn and handed her gently to her mother and Annette smiled as she went to sit on the couch.
"Hello there Riley, it's nice to meet you" she smiled and Rebecca sat down next to her gently "She's so calm" she said and Rebecca nodded
"She's been pretty chill for the most part right now" Rebecca stated and they watched Remi run back down the stairs with something behind her back
"Remi if that is something that you're going to throw on her I swear" Colby stated
"Lopez!" Rebecca scolded and he became quiet
"It's for Riley" Remi said "I worked really hard on it" she said as she handed her mother a piece of construction paper that she had drawn a picture on
"It's beautiful love" Rebecca smiled "Look Riley, do you like it?" she put the paper in front of the newborn "She loves it" Rebecca smiled at her daughter
"I got her this too" she said handing her the pink and white teddy bear
"Remi this is your favorite teddy" Rebecca said and the little girl nodded
"It makes me feel better when I'm scared.. and she's in a new place and I don't want her to get scared"
"Aww munchkin" Rebecca pulled her daughter in-between her and Annette
"How are you handling this Colby?" Annette asked
"He's scared" Rebecca stated
"Terrified" Colby corrected
