Mama always insisted that I never walk alone in the dark, ingraining her only rule into my head ever since kindergarten.

After a late shift, Ma's words rang in my ears as I left the corner store, but I didn't dwell much on it. It was such a short walk back home, and I've never broken her rule before. She would never find out.

My footsteps were the only sound echoing through the night. Glancing over my shoulders, an unsettling feeling wormed its way into my gut.

It was only a few minutes later when I noticed the white van.
