It all started one afternoon.
Mum and Dad went underneath deck and I was persistent to watch the picturesque sunset with Stella. It was truly mesmerizing - so much so - that I forgot to heed Dad's warning and as I drifted off, only after, did I realize my mistake.

BANG! A thunderous crack broke the sweet sound of silence and icy daggers began pelting my face.
I'd woken with a jolt to the slashing waves; wind like ghosts whirring past my tickled ears. It was another storm.

I crouched down to grab precious Stella but she had vanished. Scrambling to my feet, I heard a familiar bark faint against the chaos erupting on our boat. I called out to her from a safe distance.
"Stella! Where are you?"

Suddenly, the boat was thrust forward, almost swallowed by a titanic wave. I was propelled into the air smashing through a window.
I saw shiny glass fragments and trails of crimson blood fluttering on the deck and before I knew it - I was in the freezing cold water, paralysed with shock.

With my life fading by minute, I saw myself going down, down, down to the bottom of the inky black abyss that people called the depths of the ocean, lying with the other sailors bones and shipwrecks in our watery grave.

I could feel myself give in to the inevitability of death as I screamed for help. Nothing could save me.

"Hello" a whisper called

I turned around to see another boy like me. Yet he was scaly all down his waist and it shone in the sheer moonlight. His hair waved in a hypnotising manner and had strings of seaweed running through. Somehow it also shone. And his eyes. Luminous. The boy grabbed me and pulled down.
Was I already dead. Or dreaming?..
