Genesis

Introduction

A game where users create a character; they level up and get stronger; the stories and missions are influenced by the Bible. The story is focused on our main character T'La, a girl who not many people paid attention to, except when she excels playing basketball on her school team.

As T'La finished her practice that Thursday, she overheard some of her teammates talking about Genesis, a new MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game) that was taking over the minds of teens all over the world. She had heard quite a lot about it throughout the year since her classmates would talk about it whenever they got the chance. However, T'La never really cared about crazes and trends, so the thought of the game never really crossed her mind. She quickly showered, grabbed her bags and headed home.

Scuffing her worn out trainers on the doormat, T'La fumbled with her keys before finally opening the door. There, her mum greeted her with a warm smile.

"My little princess," she said, still smiling, "How are you? Dinner's ready on the table, make sure you finish quickly so you can start your homework." Being a girl of few words, she simply nodded, returning her mother's smile as she went to eat.

T'La wolfed down her food and ran upstairs to finish her homework. After completing her homework, she put her books in her bag for her lessons the next day, she then turned to her computer. She stared the screen it for a good ten minutes before letting out a deep sigh. She had nothing important to do, but a word lingered in the back of her mind. Genesis.

"I might as well give this stupid game a try, don't know why everyone's hooked on it," she thought.

With her hands on her hips and her lips pouting, she brushed her long, black braids away from her face. T'La double clicked on the app and it started up, showing the title screen. The word 'Genesis' was plastered in a large, blocky, futuristic font. Low synths hummed in the background as the green loading bar filled up. As T'La was waiting, she stared intently at the word.

"Genesis? What the hell is Genesis, what does that even mean?" she wondered.

T'La minimised the app and searched the word. Almost immediately, the description appeared.

GENESIS - THE ORIGIN OR MODE OF THE FORMATION OF SOMETHING.

"Sooo... it's basically the beginning of all everything? And isn't the first book of the bible called Genesis? That makes so much sense now!" her chestnut eyes lit up in awe of her new discovery, but she quickly regained her train of thought. "Oh... Genesis." She chuckled to herself as she reopened the game window. The game had finally loaded.

T'La scrolled through the many options that would make her character unique. Her mouse scrolled over the many character design options as her mind flipped through the possible combinations. There were infinite options; hairstyle, hair length, skin tone, eye colour, eye shape, height, body type and so on. To an extent, it was so detailed that it almost felt real. Eventually she decided on waist-length, white hair, chestnut eyes just like her own, a slender build and a simple black outfit. After choosing her avatar's powers, she had finished. The screen read:

 The screen read:

Excited at having completed her character, she scrolled straight to the game's start button. The button glistened and beveled as her cursor landed on it, but her eyes scrolled to the bottom corner of her screen where the time was displayed: 3:16 am.

"Oh crap, is that the time? I actually need to go to sleep, I have an exam tomorrow!"

T'La sighed as she closed the game window. She sat on her bed, cross legged as she always did before bed and closed her eyes in prayer. "O Heavenly Father, I give you honor and I give you all the praise, you are the most high God, I want to thank you for blessing me with an awesome mother, and I pray you continue to watch over my father's soul, I pray you continue to give me strength to overcome all temptations that come my way and as I sleep tonight I pray you send your angels to guard me. Go before me in my exams and bless everything that I do. Amen."

She snuggled under her duvet and rested her head on her pillows, eventually drifting off to sleep.
