Upbeat quest music plays through Barley's speakers as Guinevere comes to a stop paying the toll of the bridge before Barley slams down on the gas again. Ian flew back slamming into the doors in the back of the van grunting as he continues his conversation with his dad's pants.
"Anyway, it's just, like, this award for math. It's no big deal." Y/n turned around in her seat. "You thought it was best thing ever when you got it!" Ian turned towards his best friend sticking out his tongue before turning back to his dad. "But I'll show you when we get back home." The pants tap it's foot filling the silence.
"Hey, uh, what are you two Chatty Charlies up to back there?" Barley glances back the the duo, Y/n doing the same. "You know, I felt weird talking to Dad without a top half, so..." Ian picks up a sack wearing sunglasses a hat and a purple vest making Y/n snort as he placed it on the top of the pants presenting it to the two up front. "Ta-da!" the head droops to the side. "That's great, now it won't be like talking to a magical pair of pants that somehow came to life." Y/n said looking at the top half of the pants Barley chuckling at her comment. "Dad, you look just like I remember." Barley says, "hey, don't worry, we'll have the rest of you here before you know it." the pants wander around blindly running into the passenger seat making Y/n jump. "And then, first thing I'm gonna do, introduce you to Guinevere." Barley continues placing his hand on the dash.
"Rebuilt this old girl myself, from the lug nut to the air conditioning." Barley moves a dial then flips a switch. Cold air blasted from the vents making Y/n grip her seat and shut her eyes as the pants were blown backwards and Ian pushes through the hard wind, reaching out to push the red switch.
Ian stumbled backwards leaning on Y/n's seat gasping for air. "Show Dad your Van? That's your whole list?" Ian pulls out his notebook and pen flipping to the list of things he was going to do with his dad Y/n peering over his shoulder.
"What list?" Barley asks.
"Oh" Ian mutters in realization as Barley looks over at Ian's notebook. "What's that?" Barley drags on as Ian looks down at his list.
"I'm just working on a list of things I wanted to do with Dad. You know, play catch, take a walk, driving lesson..." Y/n leans over his shoulder reading the bottom one, "share your life with him. Sentimental." Y/n tells her friend.
"That's cool" Barley tells his brother, "Oh. But before you cast Dad's spell again, you're gonna have to practice your magic." Barley holds up the Quests of Yore spell book tossing it to Ian who lost his grip on it making it land in Y/n's lap who picked it up and looked at the cover of it.
"This is for a game Bar" Barley rolls his eyes, "I told you two, everything in Quests of Yore is historically accurate. Even the spells." Barley exclaims jabbing his finger on the cover of the book before picking up the staff and handing it to Ian, "so start practicing young sorcerer." Ian sighs turning around as Y/n turns her seat around as well so she is facing the back as Ian sighs.
Y/n opens the book to the first spell as Ian sighs again. "Okay, Dad. Let's try some magic." he muttered looking down at the book that sat in Y/n's lap.

Laurel walks up the stairs, Blazey trailing after her.
"Hey, sweetie?" she yells as Blazey races around her feet making her trip, "ugh! Blazey. Oh this dragon is always under my feet." she muttered walking over to Ian's room.
"Honey, Y/n? You want some cake?" she trails off when she gets to cake seeing a piece of paper taped to his door written in Y/n's handwriting.
BE BACK WITH MIND BLOWING SURPRISE!!
Laurel looks up confused, before turning towards Ian's door opening it.
Laurel gasps softly as she sees the state Ian's room, looking around at the messy bed and the books and shoes scattering the floor before seeing Ian's broken phone on his bed. She jumps slightly as Blazey jumps up onto Ian's desk sniffing the cards Barley had taken out of his Quests of Yore card deck.
Laurel makes her way over to her son's desk shoving Blazey down looking at the cards and picking them up, the Phoenix gem on top. Laurels eyes widened as she moves the card to see the one below it. The Manticore's Tavern. Laurels eyes narrow in determination as she runs downstairs and grabs her keys running out to her car starting it up and pulling out of her driveway ready to hunt down her son's and their friend.
The headlights of Laurels car pass over the table with Barley's role playing game, the lights landing on the fearsome Manticore who was brandishing her sword into the sky, her eyes glowing red before the room goes dark, the car headlights leaving the window.
