"You know I can't do that, it wouldn't be very hero like of me to let you fly free" Hawks said with a smile and with a voice that was still calm. Was he really trying to walk closer again?
You were still keeping up the flame, you were actually suprised that the fire alarm hadn't caught you yet. If the sprinklers turned on you would be fucked.
Your quirk was a weird one, you weren't really sure how the fire comes to life from your body, but if you are covered in water there is no way to summon the fire.
The heat from your body can dry the water from your skin faster, but it takes a while.
"I can't go back.." you said and backed towards the balcony door, Hawks followed you slowly step by step.
"Back where?" He asked with a real confusion in his voice. Hadn't he received your case file or had he not researched you well enough?
He might be working alone on this, or he was working for someone else who didn't know about your background.
By now you had reached your escape route, you let your hand free from the flames and opened the door while stepping outside. You closed the door and locked it while keeping eye contact with Hawks. The lock wouldn't hold him for long, but it did give you a small head start.
You knew that the moment you put out the rest of the flames to use your wings he would come after you.
Quickly you jumped down from your balcony, the flames going away and reappearing as wings after you had fallen a few stories down. Before you hit the ground you glided upward and away from the yard.
You could hear crashing of the glass from your balcony, Hawks was already coming after you with an amazing speed.
You kept flying away between the buildings, cursing how easy your wings were to spot in the dark. It wouldn't take long for him to catch you.
You were now mostly away from the city, coming towards a more suburban neighborhood that was separated from the rest of the city by a river. It would be harder to hide in an area like that so you had to turn elsewhere.
Before you could do that you saw a few feathers flying past you, you turned your head to see Hawks really close behind.
While you were busy looking at Hawks you felt a sharp pain on your leg making you fall down a few meters. Did he really just slice at your leg with his feather?
"Not cool!" You yelled at him, getting actually angry now. The cut wasn't that big but it was big enough to cause you some pain.
Then he did it again, this time on your other leg sending you once again down a few meters since you lost focus on the flying.
You were currently flying above the river at the edge of the main city area. You had to find a hiding place now or he would catch you.
You tried to fly faster but you were exhausted by now, he didn't seem to be tired at all.
"You should just give up!" You heard Hawks say from above you.
You quickly turned now flying your back towards the water, you pulled your wings back inside and sent out a fire ball from your hands towards the hero.
He dodged easily but this gave you just enough time to switch direction.
You leaned backwards and were now falling towards the water head first. You waited for the fire ball you sent to disappear before pulling your wings back out just in time before hitting the water, now gliding back towards the way you came from.
Hawks noticed that you had changed direction and was quickly coming after you again.
You didn't realize how close he was to you before he took a hold of your ankle, if he was clever he would dip you into the water.
You were only a few meters above the river, so you would have to fly higher if you didn't want to swim tonight.
You started flying up but he noticed that, slowing down and trying to drag you down by your ankle closer to the water. His wings were much stronger than yours, so he was able to pull you down pretty quickly.
