" Nahirah! Nahirah! Up!". At the sound of my mom's hushed voice, I know something is wrong.

I jump into a sitting position, allowing my eyes to adjust to the void darkness in my room.

It's approximately 2 in the morning, what could she want?

I dangle my feet off the bed and hop straight to the door.

"N! Let's go! We have to hide!" My mom's expression was grave and edged in worry and pain. She pushes an empty bag in my hand and pleads with me to pack.

We silently creep towards my door. There it was. Next door. A faint but definite scream.

"They're here! Run to the basement ground and go straight to the tunnels!" Mom hastily pushes me towards the stairs.

"Be quiet. If I'm not there in 30mins...run and never look back." She gentle places a kiss on my forehead, before we were, finished, a horrific bang sounds the destruction of my room window.

This time, my mom needs not tell me to go, because I'm halfway down the stairs already.

I head straight towards the basement tunnel, panting as if I was a dog who just finished finding help for it's dying owner.

The deafening silence is interrupted by a shriek following the sound of a gun shot.

My mom. Wait... My Mom!

Without thinking, I rush up the stairs and into a dark hallway. A kitchen knife in my hand and gear in my heart.

I am greeted with a trail of blood. Horror flashes against my face, is this my mom's?

Curiosity takes over and leads me towards my mom's bedroom door. Upon creaking it open, the sound of heavy panting is poured into my ears.

"M mom? Are you here?"

I make my way to the end of the trail...

Falling to my knees as I see my mom drenched in blood. Her eyes flutter open when she feels my grip.

"N... Leave. They are here...!" Her voice is filled with pain and horror.

Who is hear? I'm about to voice my concern, when my eyes land on her abdomen.

" Mom ... Who did this? Who is here?!"

Her eyes struggle to stay open and we both know this conversation is about to end.

" Find your aunt... Leave and never look back...They are here..."

Who?" Who? Mom hold on... It will be ok."

Her eyes finally close.

"The creatures...of the dark..."
