When you think of a assassin and thief you think of a ninja right? Well not me, I think of an owl.

I was walking through downtown with my mother, it was one of the very few times when we could get out of the house away from my father, who had a tendency to be slightly abusive. We had visited a ice cream shop, both fashioning our purchases in vanilla cones.

Mine had a rainbow of sprinkles over a chocolate ice cream with lots of extra pieces imbedded inside the treat that was sure to cause cavities. My mother had a simple vanilla. Looking back I assume she only bought because I wanted her to have one two because she hardly ate it.

These were the days I enjoyed. Being out and about in the world instead of locked in our apartment. My father was rather wealthy so we didn't have small confinements or anything, it was my father, I knew he loved me and mother but I never really felt much of that love. At the time I didn't know why.

Now a days I can assume it was because that was how the court raised him, to be tough and cold and he instinctively did the same to me. I like to think that was also why he never got too close to me and never had a bond with me because he still thought of himself as a killer.

I remember that day so fondly because that was my last day as normal . At least that's what I thought.

...

I jogged down the steps to tell mother goodnight, she hadn't come to my room yet so I decided to go to hers. This wasn't unusual since mother worked very hard and often accidentally forgot to tuck me in. I slowed my steps as I heard that father was on the phone with someone and didn't seem to happy.

Once I reached the bottom I peeked around the edge of the stair way as my brown reddish hair slid down my shoulder on to my chest, he was standing in front of a giant window that made up most of the wall. He was pacing back and forth with an expression I couldn't read but from what I could tell seemed very agitated.

I could tell this wasn't going to end well so I didn't say anything and slipped past as silently as possible. I reached mothers room and stopped in the door way. My mother was facing away from the door with her head in her hands and her elbows on her knees. I couldn't help but feel saddened at seeing my mother like this. I stepped closer and put a comforting hand on her back, but she instantly jumped and spun around.

"Oh, sorry dear. You scared me, your so silent" she said slightly flabbergasted. I had a tendency to surprise people by accident because I was so quite. Another thing me and my father unfortunately had in common.

"Sorry" I said looking away. She cupped my cheek with her hand and gently turned my head back to look at her and smiled. I smiled back and sat down beside her resting my head on her shoulder. She stroked my hair and kissed my forehead, I could feel my eyelids getting heavy but tried to stay awake as long as I could.

I was jolted awake though by the sound of a window shattering. My mother jumped up instantly looking towards the door, she started moving like she was going to investigate but looked down at me with a new found fear in her eyes.

"Edith, listen very closely, I want you to hide here and be completely silent. Don't make a sound no matter what happens and make sure to stay hidden! Ok?" She spoke while clutching my arms and staring into my eyes with determination and fear. "Y-yes mother" I was still so shocked on how fast everything was happening, I hardly got the words out.

My mother nodded and waited until I was safely hidden under the bed before she left. I could feel myself shivering and the drumming of my heart against my chest. My eyes were locked on the door waiting for something, anything to happen. I could hear yelling from the room my father was in which only made me more afraid.

After what seemed like hours I could barely hear footsteps coming down the hall. The only way I could hear them is because they sounded just like my fathers footsteps but slower and more precise than father ever walked. This person was searching for something and getting ready to pounce at any given time.

I put a hand over my mouth to keep myself from breathing so hard, the footsteps stopped in the door way, apparently still hearing me even after my best attempts. I watched in horror as a pair of black boots came to my side of the room.

But before I could even yell for help the person grabbed my leg and dragged me out from under the bed in two heartbeats. Along with my new found carpet burns I was met with a figure in pitch black clothing with blades strapped across his chest and a mask that had a weird eyebrow shape with a triangle in the center finished with a pair of orange googles. I was in to much fear to realize how much it reminded me of a certain bird of prey.

The man grabbed the back of my shirt and dragged my all the way back to my father with me kicking and screaming the whole way. When we reached our destination he threw me to in front of him And crosses his arms, glaring down at me like I was the most disgusting thing he'd ever seen.

"Ah, so this is that little brat we were so eager to meet" a deep voice I didn't recognize spoke with a almost mischievous tone that was laced with venom. I barely mustered the strength to look up at a broad shouldered man in the same dark outfit but without a mask and light almost white messy blond hair with dark brown eyes looking down his nose at me. I looked around and saw most of the furniture had been destroyed and my father was on the other side of the room propped against our broken couch in a bloody mess, he looked to be barley awake.

The broad shouldered man kneeled down and grabbed my chin and making me look towards him it was almost as gentle as when my mother held my check just a few minutes before but this time I could feel the sharp edges of his gloves and see the evil in his eyes.

"It took sometime to find you huh? Not many people can hide from a talon" he said while narrowing his eyes and looking at the person who dragged me here. He looked back at me with smile that screamed 'I just came up with a evil plan'. He stood up and transferred his hands behind him and began walking to my father.

"Wait!" I cried as I reached out a hand towards my father. "Don't hurt him!" I hadn't realized what I had done until the man with the blond hair turned back to me with a expression I couldn't decipher. He scoffed and kept walking, once he reached my father knelt down again and whispered something into my fathers ear that I couldn't hear.

Before I could react something was injected into my arm, "Hey!" I hadn't even realized that two more apparently called talons had appeared until they were right on top of me. The last thing I saw was my father now on the floor with a gash in his chest before everything went black.

So what do you think??
This is a story I've really been wanting to write but never had the time. But now that we are in quarantine I'm gonna have a lot of free time ;)
This chapter is short but only because it's the prologue so the other chapters are going to be longer for sure.
