Mia had moved to Salem a couple days ago and had made it her mission to walk around the town and get familiar with her new surroundings as well as try to hand in her CV in a couple places to try and get a job to make some money to pay for rent while she was researching the tattoo shops in the town to see what place she wanted to pursue her dream and the next step of her life. She got lucky a couple days in when she got a call from a supermarket for a position and she took it because she needed the money. She came over to the US with one suitcase full of clothes and a case for her tattoo equipment. She didn't have anything else, just an empty flat and almost no money to pay for it with.

The next day she was asked to work so she got up and ready and left her cold empty flat. It was only a 15 minute walk and it was a lovely day, she enjoyed it. Eventually she turns up to her new work.

"Ah you made it, you're doing shelf-stocking today, there's a specific way we do things around here so if you come with me I will talk you through everything" her new manager Steve says to her and she meets him with a little nod and follows to the back office. "So, this is your shirt, trousers have to be black, same with shoes and this here is your name tag. There's a staff bathroom in the warehouse where you can change" he says.

"Uhm.. right now?" She asks.

"Of course, your shift starts when you are ready, meet me back up here" he says. She nods and heads down in search for the bathroom. It was cold and creepily quiet down there. She finds the bathroom and goes in, changing her clothes and wonders where she's going to put her own shirt. She opens the door, walking out and finds a staff room and puts her things in one of the lockers, deciding to head back up now that she was done. Steve was still in the office when she comes back up.

"Great. Right, come with me" he says grabbing his clipboard and walks back to one of the isles and turns to face you. "So, on the sightline are products that need to go out so try and look at what the box says and see if it can be put on the shelves. For example, there is a box of M&Ms up there and if you see that on the shelf they're looking empty, take the box down and put more out. Got it?" He says

"Uh yeah seems easy enough" Mia says.

"Perfect, I will leave you to it, if you have any problems or are finished come see me" he says. She nods and gets to work. She was actually doing really well for someone who hasn't worked in retail before.

It was more than halfway through her shift when someone approaches her "Excuse me, could you tell me where I can find the bathroom" a males voice says. She turns blank faced and then has to tilt her head up to see the tall man. "Uhm sorry I'm new here, I'm unsure if there are customer toilets, but I can try and help you look" she says. The man smiles and nods following her through the store.

"So where are you from?" The man asks, Mia glancing at him unsure if she should be making personal conversation with the customer.

"London, I just moved here a couple days ago" she says.

"Oh nice, so you're very new then, you probably don't know anyone then yet" he says

"Nope just the manager here and my landlord" she says and chuckles. Still walking through the store.

"Well I'm Justin, so now you know me too, and that's the bathrooms just there so thank you for your help newbie" he says and smiles and walks into the bathroom. She looks around a little unsure of if she should wait for him or just go back to doing what she was doing. She decides it would be weird for her to wait so she walks back and keeps working. Justin soon comes back over to her.

"Hey I was thinking, how about I add you on Instagram or get your number or something in case you need someone to talk to or nerd a guide around Salem?" He says scratching the back of his head a little. She didn't know if she could trust this tall stranger but he seemed lovely and she didn't have anyone to speak to at all so maybe if she needed help with anything he would be helpful, she thought.

"Sure why not?" She smiles. He hands her his phone and she types in her number and hands it back to him.

"I didn't get your name" he says.

"Mia" she says and chuckles.

"Well Mia, I'll let you get back to work before you get fired on your first day, see you around" he says and winks before walking off. She smiles to herself a little. Salem wasn't so bad.  It started getting busier in the shop and you see Steve walking down the isle.

"I need you to work the tills, it's getting too busy" he says. You start walking with him to the tills and go sit behind the one he assigns you. "Good luck" he says.

"Wait aren't you going to show me what to do?" She says as he starts walking off and doesn't hear her. "Great" she mutters as there was a cue starting to form. She taps on the screen and it just says to start scanning so she does just that and very slowly works through the cue.

Eventually her shift was over and she was glad, the first part wasn't so bad but the stress off being at the till was too much. She gets her things, saying bye to Steve who says he'll keep in touch and leaves. She starts walking home taking a different route and decides to stop at a coffee shop and get an iced coffee.
