Kathryn

"What about that guy over there?" Kenzie asked and pointed at a young man sitting at a table in the corner of the café. "You'd totally look so cute with him."

"Honestly Kenzie, shut up," Sasha said and smacked Kenzie with the wet cloth she was using to wipe the counter.

"What do you think, Kathryn? Wouldn't Sasha be so cute with that guy?" Kenzie continued.

"Yeah, whatever," I said, only glancing at the guy Kenzie was talking about. He looked pretty average, the only noticeable thing that would've made him stand out from a crowd was his bright yellow shirt. "I don't get why you're constantly trying to pair Sasha with someone."

"Oh come on, she's been single for all her life! And I can't pair you, 'cause you have a boyfriend," Kenzie said.

"Being single doesn't mean I need a boyfriend," Sasha said rolling her eyes. "I'm doing perfectly fine without one. Have done so for the past seventeen years."

"Come on, we both know you wouldn't mind meeting a Prince Charming who'd sweep you off your feet and turn your life upside down," Kenzie continued.

Sasha only glared at Kenzie and continued wiping the counter.

"Sasha's a strong independent woman who doesn't need a man to turn her life upside down," I said joining the conversation. I noticed Sasha flashing me a grateful smile.

"That's right. And now arms off the counter, I need to wipe it," Sasha ordered and Kenzie and I lifted our arms letting Sasha clean the counter.

Sasha and Kenzie were my best friends. The best friends I'd ever had. It was so easy to be myself around them and it felt like I could talk about anything with them. Well, at least almost anything. There were some things I couldn't talk about with anyone. But there wasn't anything I couldn't deal with by myself. Anyway, Sasha and Kenzie were my best and only friends and they made me feel accepted and important. Like I was valuable. And that meant the world to me.

"There's also a super cute guy there," Kenzie said glancing pointedly at another young man in the café.

I leaned forward to get a better look at the guy. I knew I shouldn't encourage her to continue doing this, but I was curious. And this time she was correct. The guy was cute with his brown curly hair and piercing blue eyes. He glanced our way and I quickly turned away not wanting to get caught of staring.

Kenzie giggled and jabbed my side with her elbow. "He's totally looking this way." She glanced again. "Gosh, he really is a cutie."

"Well why don't you go talk to him then? What about your own lovelife?" Sasha asked, throwing the cloth into the sink behind her and wiping her hands on her apron.

Kenzie blushed. "It's under control."

"Yeah, sure." Sasha rolled her eyes.

"Oh come on guys, can we talk about something else?" I asked. It came out a little bit more angrily than I had planned. Sasha immediately noticed something was wrong. Nothing could go by her unnoticed.

"Is everything okay with you and Mikey?" she asked.

"Well, I'm not sure. There is something I'd like to talk about," I confessed.

"Sure thing honey, but now you really gotta move out of the way. I'm sensing uncomfortable customers behind you wondering if they'll ever get served in this café or if they should carry their money elsewhere," Sasha answered. "And you know my boss wouldn't love you scaring away potential dollars."
