I stepped through the golden gates and stared at the enormous school building. Meiji High School, one of the most prestigious high schools in the entire world. Large flower gardens circulated around the cream-white buildings and students of all kinds of high social statuses walked in and out of the building's main door.

I stood in front of the building, dazzled by the enchanting sight. Suddenly, I heard a loud screech from behind me coming from outside the school's gate.

A pearl-white sports car was parked right in front of the main entrance. Two men dressed in black suits emerged from the driver and passenger seats. One of them made their way to the car boot and carried out what seemed to be a backpack and a suitcase, while the other opened the backseat-door, allowing a tall, masculine figure to emerge.

All the students that were previously roaming around and socializing in the flower gardens that surrounded the building were now all lined up into a straight line along the side of the stone path that led to the school building's main entrance. I stood in the middle of the path, confused, unsure of what was going on. The tall figure, who seems to be a student seeing that he's dressed in the school's uniform although his uniform colour was white instead of blue, walked in my direction and stopped in front of me.

A moment of silence filled the air and I could feel dozens of pairs of eyes fall upon me. The student stared at me in silence with an emotionless expression.

"Miss," a man in a black suit said, "You're in the way."

The other students who were watching on the side of the path began to whisper among themselves.

"I'm sorry, what?" I asked.

"You're currently blocking the path of Sir Kai," the man replied.

My eyes shifted blankly between the suited man and "Sir" Kai.

"I'm blocking his path?" I repeated in disbelief. "There's so much space around us. Have you ever heard of walking around? I was standing here and minding my own business. It's you who decided to walk into me."

The whispering among the students stopped and many of them stared at me in shock.

"Miss, please be aware that Sir Kai ranks among the highest aristocrats in the world," the other man in a suit said. "It's common manners to make way for the aristocracy."

"Well can Mr Aristocracy not use common sense and walk around me when there's so much space around?" I shot back.

"Miss, please watch your-"

"Let's not waste our time on such small matters," the student suddenly said. "We have much more important matters to attend to."

He walked around me, followed by his two assistants, and made his way to the school building's main entrance.

There was a brief moment of silence before the other students, who were standing on the side, scattered and continued doing what they were doing before "Mr Arrogant" entered the front gate.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath to process what had just happened. Argh, you could've just listened to him, Mei. I thought. Why are you like this!

"That was very brave of you," a voice said from behind me, breaking my train of self-resent.

I turned around and saw a beautiful pair of pale green eyes looking at me. A girl with long, flowing, brunette hair and fair, glass-like skin, stood in front of me, smiling.

"Not a lot of people have the guts to stand up to Sir Kai," the girl added. "You're quite unique."

"I can't stand people like that," I said. "Yes, there is a difference in social status among people in this world, but that doesn't give anyone the right to disrespect other people and act all arrogant."

The girl smiled while nodding her head.

"Are you new to this school?" She asked. "I don't think I've ever seen you around."

"Oh, yeah," I replied. "I'm Mei...I'm here as scholarship student."

"A scholarship student?" The girl exclaimed, shocked. "Oh my, you must be incredibly smart!"

"Oh, no, it's nothing." "I'm Miyo Shizume, you can call me Miyo." She said.

"It's nice to meet you, Miyo."

Miyo smiled and took a quick glance at her watch.

"There's still plenty of time before class starts. Come with me," she said. "I'll show you around."

As we walked along the white corridors of the school building, Miyo informed me of all the school rules and introduced all the classrooms to me. The classroom doors were all made of dark mahogany wood with a gold label nailed onto each door with the name of the teacher engraved on it. Suddenly, we walked across two huge adjacent doors with a golden handle and a golden door frame, clearly distinguishing itself from the other doors. A fancy number "7" was displayed above the door.

"What's that?" I asked.

"Hm? Oh. That door leads to a very special room," Miyo explained. "Only the top 7 academic students are allowed to go through that door."

"I would have never thought such a thing existed," I said.

Miyo smiled. "The top 7 academic students of the school are called the Elite 7 and they're the school's most precious assets. See that "7" sign above the door? That sign is plated with 24K gold."

"No surprise there, I added. "This school is a gold mine."

"Many students say that the reason why such a simple sign is plated in 24K gold is because the members of the Elite 7 are as precious as gold," Miyo explained. "The school pampers them a lot, and by a lot, I mean A LOT."

"And for what reason, exactly?" I asked.

"Various competitions are held annually in which students from some of the most prestigious schools compete with each other in intellect, sports, and pretty much anything you could think of, even cooking. The school relies primarily on the Elite 7 to win these competitions and obtain a whole bunch of trophies which gets publicised in the media, increasing the overall ranking of the school."

"Wow, those students must be really amazing," I said in wonder.

"Indeed, Miyo said. "They're on an entirely different level compared to the rest of the students, almost like gods. Barely anyone can compete with them."

I stood in front of the door and stared in admiration. Imagine being able to walk in and out of that door whenever you please and having the entire school admire you for your excellence.

"Alright!" I said aloud. "My goal is to work hard and become a member of the Elite 7!"

Right at that moment, the golden handle on the door turned and opened, revealing the seven students that the school deems as "god-like".
