Two years after the pirate king was executed, a pirate ship is anchored in a small hidden cove that was overlooked by a tiny cottage, in a small island in East Blue. There was a pale light coming from the house along with the screams of a young woman.
That night a little red-haired girl was born. Portgas D. Emi. She is the result of a forbidden romance. The one of a young pirate and the crown princess of the Goa Kingdom. Her father was ecstatic but he knew that that happiness wasn't going to last. And he was right. Three days later the royal guards along with the queen found them. They took his lover and daughter, back to the palace and chased him away.
For eight years Emi hadn't talked to her father. Her mother gave her some pictures of him secretly and they had talked through a Den Den Mushi once. It was forbidden by the Queen to even talk about that man. On the night of her eighth birthday, she was on the balcony gazing at the stars and the sea with her telescope when she saw a pirate ship docked in the village far from the city. When she looked at the flag she almost screamed. It was her father's. The same night she escaped the palace, a place she hated more than anything, with the help of a friend.
The next morning she was outside the pub in the centre of the village. Loud voices and laughter were coming from inside. She walked in and everybody stopped what they were doing to stare at the small cloaked figure that stepped inside. Shanks was teasing a small boy and didn't notice the silence.
"Stop making fun of the kid", Emi paused and Shanks turned around to look at the owner of the voice, "Papa!", Emi raised her head and smiled at him.
The captain was frozen in his seat. A few moments passed before he jumped to his daughter to hug her and started crying.
"Emi. Emi, is this really you?", he sobbed," Are you my Emi?"
"Yes, Papa, it's me. I'm here. With you", she cried.
The little boy, the young woman behind the bar and the whole crew were speechless. Few of the pirates knew that their captain had a kid. Those who did, Shanks' inner circle, the stronger members, were smiling at the sight of their nakama's happiness.
