I was going to attend my area's pride parade as part of the transgender/non-binary community. I was a little bit shocked at the sheer amount of people. There were people of all shapes, sizes and sexualities.

I was making my way through the dense crowd until I found a somewhat uninhabited space that I could stand in. I stood happily along the sidewalk, looking at the various LGBTQ+ icons of the parade, some of which were very controversial, but I hadn't minded. I was just here to watch the love flow by in the form of beautifully crafted floats.

I was gazing at the floats and half zoning out. I snapped out of my tired state as a couple women asked if they could scoot in front of me. I accepted and sat at a nearby bench.

As I was relaxing on the bench, a decently young girl sat beside me.

I wanted to have a conversation with a new potential friend.

"Hey, what have you been thinking of the parade so far?" I asked the girl casually.

"Um, it's been okay, this is meant to be a place of love, but if you ask me, it seems a bit corrupted, y'know? There's anti-capitalism and anti-police propaganda and everybody is cursing at 'cishets' whatever those are." She replied in a croaked voice. I understood her concerns, people try to use these events for their own gain as opposed to just enjoying the happiness and love of this event.

"Yeah, those people suck, but hey, just because there are a few bad apples doesn't mean the entire tree has to go down." I calmly responded.

"Makes sense." She paused for a moment. "I don't want to be rude but what is your gender? I didn't want to assume."

I got a bit flustered and smiled. "Oh, don't worry, that's a normal question. I'm non-binary."

"What's that?" The girl replied.

"Oh, it means that I'm not entirely female but also not entirely male. I act as a bit of both but some act as neither." I calmly answered.

"Ah, thanks, people have been saying that and it's been confusing me to no end." The girl smiled. "My name's Tsu, what's yours?"

"(Y/N)." I held my hand out for her to shake it. She shook it back.

"So, as a non-binary, what pronouns do you use?" It was a pretty normal question. I was happy to answer her questions.

"Oh, I use they/them pronouns. Not really male or female."

"Thanks."

"I've really enjoyed talking to you, you're pretty cool. Say, do you have a (Social media) account?" She asked me.

"Oh, sure I do. My username is (Username)." I joyfully replied.

"See you around." Tsu smiled at me before joining with her other friends.

Finally, one more educated person in the world.
