A Slight Argument

*Dean*

Class ends with the startling sound of the lunch bell, no one leaving the room faster than Dean. He sets of down the corridor in search of a certain blue eyed boy, a rather heavy volume clutched tightly in his hands as he picks up his pace to avoid the usual mass of students. He catches sight of the boy through the thickening crowd, reaching out and grabbing his arm. The flinch at his movement is enough to make Dean release his arm, holding his hands up in surrender as the smaller boy turns around.

"Hey, didn't mean to scare you kid. You dropped this earlier, and I wanted to give it back to you."

He receives no response at first, just a look of terror from the other boy, but eventually the silence is broken by two soft words.

"Thank you."

Dean nods, tipping his head slightly as he flashes a smirk to the other boy.

"I'm Dean, by the way."

His words are met with more silence, seeming to scare the other boy more than anything. He winces as he notices the bruise forming on the other boys cheek, looking more like a hand print than the accident he thought it was this morning.

"Are you okay?"

"What?"

Dean gestures towards his cheek, instantly on guard as the smaller boy takes a step back and shakes his head. He steps closer to the boy, still holding out the book for him to take back.

"I've got to go...sorry to be a bother..."

He runs off, leaving Dean confused in the middle of the corridor. A girl approaches him, flipping her red hair out of her face before speaking.

"What was that about? Why are you bothering him?"

"I was trying to return his book."

She nods, trying to tale the book from Dean before he snatches it away. The smirk returns to his face as she tries again to take the book from him.

"Don't think so sweetheart, I don't know you."

The glare she gives him is enough to make the smirk drop off his face, replaced with a deadpan stare.

"I'm his sister, now give it here asshole."

He backs down rather quickly, able to tell that she can and will fight him, and the book changes hands with little more conversation. He catches her arm before she is able to leave, receiving a similar reaction to that of the boy.

"What do you want?"

Her voice is full of venom, eyes flashing with anger as Dean slowly releases her arm.

"Tell him I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare him like that."

She hardly blinks at this, seeming to have expected his words before they even leave his mouth.

"I'd suggest you leave him alone, he doesn't like people like you."

"What do you mean 'people like me'? I'm not that bad of a guy, honestly."

"You don't know the effect you have on people, do you? You make them love you, and then you break their hearts. He doesn't need that in his life right now!"

Dean nods, starting to feel uncomfortable as the girl stares at him. Her expression doesn't soften, instead seeming to grow into something more menacing when Dean opens his mouth again.

"I'm Dean. Dean Winchester."

"We've heard all about you, and that's why you need to leave him alone."

His quickly turns back into the usual playful smirk, chuckling at the force of the accusation thrown at him; thoughts all returning to the belief that his reputation can't be as bad as the girl makes it seem.

"Well, I think that depends on what you've heard then now doesn't it?"

"I heard about Lisa, and Bela, and...and everyone else. Stay away from Cas."

Smirk wavering for a split second, Dean is slower than usual to recover his composure, but the subtle slip up is hardly large enough for her to notice.

"Awww come on, that's hardly a fair judgement. Lisa's dad didn't want us together, and Bela had to go back to England. I'm really not that bad sweetheart. Besides, I never said I wanted to ask him out. I don't even know the guy."

"You didn't know Lisa."

"We knew each other from chemistry!"

The shouting is starting to draw the attention of the final few stragglers making their way to the lunch room, quickly leaving when one of the arguing pair glares at them. Sam walks past, inching closer in case things escalate too much, though Dean has never actually fought a girl before. The presence of his younger brother, however, serves as nothing more than another factor to irritate the elder Winchester.

"Yeah, and I bet you two were just studying with all the time she spent at your house!"

"You think that's what I want with your brother? Seriously?"

By now Dean is starting to get more than irritated, wanting nothing more than for the girl to leave him alone and stop asking so many questions about his past relationships.

"Just leave him alone, alright? I don't need to add you to my list of problems right now."

She turns away quickly, tucking the book under her arm as she stomps down the corridor in the direction that Cas had gone. Dean turns just as quickly, running into Sam in his haste to get out of the suddenly too small corridor.

"What was that about?"

"None of your business."

Sam nods, dragging his brother off down the side corridor and into the small courtyard beyond the surprisingly unlocked double doors.

"You still good to go out tonight or are you coming straight home?"

"Why would I go home? Of course I'm going out. Surprised you aren't coming."

A moment of silence passes before a response is made, Sam running a hand through his hair before he speaks.

"Actually, Jess said she wanted to go. Is the Impala ready to go?"

"It is, but you're not going to get the keys from me."

"I'll let her know. Shes going to pick me up then, we're going to the Novak's."

The expression on Dean's face is enough to make Sam laugh, resisting the urge to make a snarky remark as his brother thinks about a response.

"Shit, you two are going there too?"

"Dude, how many parties do you think there are on the same night?"

Dean pulls a bitchface to rival one of Sam's, staring up at his brother in a way that shows no prior thought had been put into the matter; which makes sense, because Dean hadn't even considered the possibility.

"I don't know, there could have been some book club meeting or some dumb shit like that. Besides, since when do you go out?"

"It's our anniversary, of course we're going out."

He nods, mumbling something about picking everyone up before he walks back into the building. Sam follows closely, making sure the door latches properly before they return to lunch.
