Part Twenty- Two

Zach's POV
Daniel offered for my sister and I to stay at his house tonight but I can't. I need to make sure my mom doesn't do something stupid tonight now that she kicked that piece of shit out. If she does anything, she'll end up ruining a lot of things. Yeah, maybe she isn't the best mom but we need her to stay out of trouble for a while for Reese's sake. Y/n and I don't want her to go to foster care and be separated from us. We need her to grow up feeling safe and happy with her family. My mom has always been complicated and our relationship has never been easy. She's supposed to be the adult but I've always had to look after the family. I'm the one who makes sure the girls are okay everyday. I make Reese's lunch, I make sure I know what's going on in y/n life and make sure her mental health is okay. My mom doesn't like when I tell her she can't go out and do drugs with her friends or go get drunk at some party because she's SUPPOSED TO be the mom. But she needs to be told these things. She needs to be reminded that even if she doesn't act like it, she's our mom and she needs to start acting like it.

"Mom are you okay?" I ask her when she comes back in and stops yelling at him.
"Yeah I'm okay I guess. Thank you for staying."
"I had to make sure you're not going to do anything stupid." I say to her.
"Zach, you don't have to take care of me. How many times do I need to tell you?" She said.
"Mom! You can't go and do something stupid because you need to be there for Reese."
"I didn't say I was going to do anything, Zach. But you need to remember who the adult is."
"Who looks after the girls every single day? Who makes lunches for Reese every night? Who is constantly there for y/n because everyone at school is so mean to her for no reason? Who makes sure the girls are safe when one of your boyfriends go on a rage fit? It's not you mom. It hasn't been you for a long time" I say. It felt really good to say that. She just looked at me in confusion. She didn't know what to say.
"Mom... you have to be Reese's mom. She needs you. Y/n does too even if she doesn't act like she does." I say to her because she didn't say anything after that.
"I know I'm not the best mom and you guys do need someone to take care of you. Maybe you'd be better off in foster care.." she said.
What? Does she even know what happens in foster care? We'd probably be separated. I can't lose my sisters. They're my whole world. After spending all of this time taking care of them, I can't lose them.
"Mom I don't think you understand that my sisters are my world and I always need to protect them. If we get put in foster care, we'd be separated." I say. I saw her look down.
"Okay I won't do it then... Zach. I do love you guys more than anything." She said.
"Thank you.." I say to her.
