Lucy Rudolf's / Justine's POV

We stepped out of the portal onto the wet grass. It must have rained while we were gone.

Our last couple of days in the realm of light consisted of us searching high and low for a place to keep the children we found during our stay. In the end, Vitas' mentor herself took them somewhere, but refused to tell us where. Whatever that future was, wasn't gonna happen.

It still felt weird with us all being human around each other, and the fact that my "sworn enemy" was the guy I grew up with. I was happy, don't get me wrong, but I just couldn't look at things the same way any more. How did I not notice this earlier?

Everest sighed and put his hands on his hips. "So what now? That Siren is gone, and Malik pretty much blew himself up. I highly doubt we'll be seeing monsters any time soon considering all the madness that has happened lately."

We eventually found a dirt trail that led us straight back to the city. "You know we're not just Heroes and Villains, right? We have our own lives we gotta live. Maybe try focusing on school work?" Aurora stated.

He started to pout like a little kid, but he didn't say anything. To be honest, I was nervous about coming back and living a normal life. Nothing about me was normal, and it almost felt fake to be living a human life now.

I nearly jumped when Everett took my hand and muttered something. "Can we talk once we get back?"

My mind went blank, but I nodded anyway. By the way he looked, something must have really been bothering him.

As soon as everyone else found their way back home, Everett suggested we go to my place to talk.

"My house? Why?"

He shrugged. "I don't want Everest to hear this."

Everett Ailan's/ Malefici's POV

I followed Lucy up the steps and waited as she unlocked the front door. We were greeted by her Mom as soon as we stepped in.

I almost felt bad for stuffing them in a closet that one night.

Her Mom squealed and ran up to give me a hug. "It's been so long Everett! How have you been? You've gotten so tall!"

"I'm fine, Mrs. Rudolf. Everest is doing well too."

She smiled from ear to ear and pulled away from me. "That's good to hear. What's the occasion?"

Lucy took my hand and bluntly stated, "He wanted to talk about something. We'll be in my room if you need us."

She looked taken aback, but then giggled. "Go have fun you two."

Lucy took me up the stairs and into her room and shut the door behind her. "Sorry, my Mom goes a little crazy with guests."

I sat in the chair across the room. It wasn't until I started my sentence when I realized she looked upset.

"What's wrong?"

"Why are you sitting over there?"

"What's wrong with sitting in a chair?"

"That's not what I meant."

I sighed and sat on the bed next to her. "I wanted to say sorry. Not as Malefici, but as me. I know I put you through hell, as a human and a demon. I'm not gonna make any lame excuses for what happened in the past."

She was silent for a minute, and then spoke up. "I forgave you for everything already. Can I ask you something?"

"Um, yeah?"

"You remember that first day you talked to me as a Demon? I was electrocuted by those wires in my room."

I nodded. That was an ugly memory, but I remembered it as if it happened yesterday.

"Was that you?"

"I'll admit, I was the one that wrecked your house. I did intentionally try to scare you, but I didn't mean to hurt you. All I wanted as a Demon was to cause a little havoc, be able defend myself, and to destroy my enemy. That wasn't me."

"It must have been an accident. Or maybe a monster. Who knows. It's crazy how I gained those powers right after I recovered."

"It happened with all of us. A near death experience is what gains their attention."

"We all nearly died? What happened to you?"

"Our house caught on fire in the middle of the night. My Mom was out somewhere that night, and Everest was busy with some friends doing who knows what. I was in the hospital for weeks recovering."

Her mouth fell open. "I'm so sorry, I had no idea. What happened to Everest?"

"He got really sick from not eating enough. Everest has always put his appearance before everything else, and it got so bad that he had to be put in the hospital for about a couple days."

"I'm sorry Everett."

"Anyway", I wanted to lighten the mood. "That isn't really what I wanted to talk about. I wanted to talk about us."

She started to get flustered and put her hands on her cheeks. "Did I do something wrong already?"

I frowned and shook my head. "No. I just wanted you to know that your reputation might get shattered by being with me. I wanted to ask you if you wanted to keep this under the radar or not."

She smiled. "I don't care about my reputation at school. We're not gonna see most of these people again after a couple years anyway. I personally want the whole world to know about us, but I know you are a reserved person about certain things. I'm okay if you want us to be under the radar."

I took her hand in mine. "The world will know that you're mine, nobody else's. Maybe we can just take things slow?"

I felt weird being this way in a relationship, considering I was always so aggressive in past relationships.

She nodded and put her head on my shoulder. "We have all the time in the world."
