seven; of curiosity and a birthday cake

Start from the beginning

"You're welcome." Changbin replied, sending the angelic boy a small smile.

The two stood, staring at each other or the ground, not knowing what do to next.

"So-"

"Then-"

They both started that the same time.

"No you first." Changbin said.

"Oh, no it wasn't that important anyway." Felix said in a retreating manner.

"Of course it's important, you're-" 'the most amazing person alive' "the birthday boy."

Felix blushed at this comment, looking away from the boy standing in front of him so he wouldn't he he red cheeks. "Uh, well, I was gonna ask you to uhm- eat this cake um, with me? Since I probably won't finish it all anyways." 'And I want to spend as much time with the most gorgeous person in existence.'

"Of course." Changbin replied almost straight away, a little too quick for his liking.

Felix smiled again, a noticeable light pink dusted upon his freckled face, "let's go over there and eat, come on hyung." The freckled boy excitedly dragged the older, by his hand, to the almost antique park bench; he felt a little less lonely now that Changbin was with him. 'I wish this would last forever.' Felix thought to himself.

They sat on the old, wooden bench with the cake in the middle. Changbin looked through his bag for the plastic sporks which came with the cake whilst the younger let his eyes wander and, seconds later, found himself starring at Changbin. Realising that he was pretty much gawking at the raven-haired boy, Felix quickly diverted his attention to a tree standing nearby, hoping Changbin didn't catch him starring.

"Spork?" Changbin asked looking up at Felix as he passed him a plastic spork wrapped in a brown serviette.

"Thanks hyung!" Felix replied, eyes lighting up as the older boy opened the cake box.

The cake was covered in white frosting, with swirls of frosting on the sides and chocolate flakes to top it off. In the middle was a piece of dark chocolate and a 'happy birthday' messily scrawled upon it with white chocolate.

"Um, sorry for the messy writing, it's my first time writing on a cake." Changbin swallowed nervously.

Felix felt his heart accelerate at this comment, 'he wrote it himself?' Felix dared to take as little as a glance at the boy opposite him, looking dazzlingly handsome in his own right. His heart smiled both at the sweet action and at Changbin's existence himself, probably. "It's okay," Felix gave a shining smile to Changbin, reassuring him "there's a first time for everything, right?"

Changbin felt his cheeks heat up for probably the nth time today, 'is he trying kill me with that damn cute smile of his? I swear, this boy will be the end of me...' he thought to himself, trying to calm his poor heart down. "Yeah, I guess," Changbin said, barely managing to spit out those few syllables.

"Mhm!" Felix beamed as he scooped a more-than-average-sized piece of chocolate cake off the rest of the spongy chocolate desert.

A small smile made its way to Changbin's mouth as he scooped himself a piece of the birthday cake, he was satisfied with the birthday boy's reaction.

After demolishing half the cake, the boys parted ways, well obviously not after a sweet farewell. The two had gotten undeniably closer and were less awkward around each other. Though, there was always some degree of awkwardness; both boys blushing and averting gazes when they got to close to each other, or when they suddenly got self-conscious of themselves and each other and therefore would be super precise with their words and actions resulting in jumbled up sentences and made-up words.

Felix continued the rest of the walk happily, almost skipping when he arrived home.

"I'm home!" He had burst through the front door, then immediately checking his precious cake to see if it got ruined. 'Thank god it's not ruined.' He breathed a sigh of relief as his mum descended the stairs.

"Welcome home sweetie." Felix's mum said with happiness evident in her tone, she was always happy to see her son, "how was my birthday boy's day?"

"It was good," Felix responded, unconsciously smiling, "but Seungmin punched me really hard when he gave me his birthday punch." Felix pouted.

"He probably had all of his pent-up annoyance in that punch." The woman chuckled. Making her way toward the kitchen.

"Aish, probably? Or that's just his way of wishing happy birthday to me." He shrugged, placing his bag a top one of kitchen stools. Felix, still gripping the white cake box, walked to the fridge, placing the said box carefully inside. Seeing this, his mother did not hesitate to inquire him.

"Where did you get that cake?"

"O-oh," the freckled boy felt his poor heart skip a beat at the memory of a certain boy. "It's from a... friend."

Unbeknownst to Felix, his mother had already seen to look on his face when he mentioned his 'friend'. "And what was this 'friend's' name?"

"Changbin, he's one of Chan hyung's friends." The boy answered blushingly, oblivious to his mother's thoughts.

"Is that so? Oh, that reminds me, Chan's family is coming over tonight to celebrate your birthday so dress decently, please." She empathised the 'please', knowing her son had not inherited her taste in fashion. But when she looked back over, Felix was already ascending the stairs, head up in the clouds; 'probably about 'friend' of his', his mother thought.

And she definitely wasn't wrong.
