Learn to let go - Part 3

*KNOCK KNOCK*
"Come in..." a muffled voice said behind the door. Hiccup opened the door allowing the light to enter the dark room to see Zephyr laying on her bed facing away from him, fiddling with something in her hands.
"Hey" Hiccup closed the door quietly behind him as he entered the dark room. He lit a candle, illuminating the room gently where he moved the candle to the side of her bed. He sat down next to his daughter. "So..."
Silence. Zephyr turned away more from her father.
"I'm sorry Zephyr..."
Silence.
"Look, I'm really sorry. I just don't know what came over me. I guess I'm just afraid I'm gonna loose you and you'll leave your family behind. I know I can't stop you from growing up but I don't want to let go of you just yet." He sighed looking at his daughter still looking away from him, he decided it would be best if he would just leave her alone for a while. He went to stand up when he felt a hand grab his arm. He looked back to see his daughter looking back at him, her crystal blue eyes staring back at him.
"It's ok" Zephyr whispered. She slowly sat up and hugged her father. He gently kissed her head as he hugged her back. She still had something in her other hand.
"What's you holding?" Hiccup asked, separating the hug.
Zephyr opened her hand up to reveal her small Toothless toy her mother made for her when she was born. It was fading a little bit still had each detail of his scales and eyes.
"I... I don't know you still had this..." He looked in awe.
"I hug and cuddle him every night when I go to sleep. I would never get rid of him. I'll always keep him by my side even when I'm older and I have my own children. He'll never leave my side... just like you, mum and Nuffink will never leave me." She smiled at him as she spoke.
"Come here" he opened his arms up where she crawled into them, just like she used to when she was very little. He smiled.
"I'll never leave you dad, I'll always be your little girl no matter what..." she said.
"I know..."
They cuddled for a while before Hiccup broke the hug again.
"So... who is this boy exactly?" Hiccup asked his daughter.
"His name is Chase, I met him the other week during weapons practice. He's really nice and cute and funny and..."
"Okay okay, calm down Zeph." He chuckled. "I guess you can go out with him... but only if we meet him and we think he's right for you!" Hiccup said looking seriously at his daughter.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I love you dad !" Zephyr smiled a large grin as she tackled her dad again with a large hug.
"I tell you now, if this boy messes you around, he better watch out for me!"
"I think you meant watch out for mum!"
She laughed as Hiccup did too.
Zephyr was always going to be his little little girl... Hiccup just had to learn to let go.
