At the Academy
Trust each other
While the teacher droned on about who knows what without noticing the four new students sitting in the back corner, K, T and C continued thinking about what N had said.
C doodled on her paper while listening to the teacher, occasionally glancing at the three other people she's normally with. K stared out of the window, not bothering at all. T zoned out staring straight towards the front.
Nobody between the four had anything to say after N finished her rant before the teacher arrived.
They continued thinking about it until a crash was heard in the front of the room. Everyone looked up to see that the teacher had dropped a small box full of papers. Her eyes widened in surprise as she takes in the four new faces in her classroom.
"Oh! I didn't notice we had some new students. I guess I got so used to the same routine that I didn't even glance around the classroom," She chuckles, looking at the four.
She steps over the dropped box and walks toward the corner seats. She smiles, lightly. Her hazel eyes slightly glowing yellow.
"I got an email about new students but I didn't realize that I would get them so quickly," She explains, waving her hand. "I'm Ms. Kennedy, your Economics teacher. Don't worry about all of the previous assignments. They won't count against you. Quite lucky though, we just started our new unit."
The four smiles and nods. They glance at each other but say nothing.
Ms. Kennedy turns around and walks towards the front of the class and laughs, "And don't worry about your own introductions, I already know your names."
'How did this lady know our names already? None of us have said anything since she walked in," The four of them think, looking around.
She glances at the four before winking, "That's my ability, of course. But enough of that, I'll explain everything to you after class. Right now, we have to learn about economics!"
The entire class fills with collective groans as they were hoping that the sudden interruption would take up the entire class.
Ms. Kennedy rolls her eyes before clapping. She looks at the class, her eyes feigning anger. "You didn't think that would have taken up the class time, were you?"
Most of the students shake their heads immediately. N assumed they didn't want to face the wrath of their teacher.
N quietly scoffs, looking away. 'How interesting. Afraid of fake anger.'
Ms. Kennedy glances at N, her eyebrows raised. The glow in Kennedy's eyes slowly fade as she continues her lecture.
"Hey, K," N whispers, lightly hitting him to get his attention. "Did you notice her eyes? They glowed for a bit. It was faint but there."
He looks at her before facing forward again. "No, I didn't. But either way, what of it?"
"Nothing but that's what I'd assume to be the effect of using your ability. The person's eyes faintly glow," N mentions. "I'd assume it happens to everyone when they use their ability."
"Quite possibly, Princess. But I guess we have to find out, huh?" K smirks after noticing N's reaction to her new nickname. "T told us we have training next so maybe your hunch would be proven."
She huffs, hitting him hard in the shoulder, "Don't call me that. I'm not a princess. Hell, I don't even act like one."
Rubbing his shoulder, he smiles, "Of course not. You're quite uncivilized to be one."
The two of them continued to argue as their teacher continued talking. C just chuckles every once in a while before turning her attention to the teacher. T only rolls his eyes at the fact that no one else cares.
"At least I'm not the one who continuously insults people," K scoffs,
"Says the streetfighter," N rolls her eyes, waving him off. "Fighting with your fists is worst than a war of insults. Besides, I only ever insult the stupid ones. Like you."
He clicks his tongue, unable to comment.
She grins, "Got nothing else to say? I said I'd win."
K smirks, "Fine. You win, Princess. But don't expect to win everytime."
"I'm not but don't expect me to go easy."
Before K can respond, the bell rings and students rush out to their next class.
As the last student walks out, Ms. Kennedy beckons the four to her desk. They walk up to her desk with looks of skepticism on their faces.
"I'd assume your wondering how I know your names before being formally introduced, aren't you?" She asks, almost immediately.
"Course. Care to explain?" K responds, rudely, earning a light hit from N.
"No need to defend me, N. I'm a grown woman teaching teenagers. I know how to handle boys like him," She laughs, eyeing K. "But I've also come to realize that you four are calling yourselves by your first initial. Why is that?"
T explained everything from after waking up in the truck. When he finished talking, Ms. Kennedy nods and sighs.
"I thought so," She sighs, irritated. "I thought he would have stopped doing that."
She looks at the four teenagers in front of her. She closes her eyes. "Oh, never mind."
She continues, "Anyways, back to the topic at hand. To answer your question, N —"
"I didn't say anything," N stutters, cutting her off. She opens her eyes, looking at her. Kennedy's eyes were glowing once more.
"But you were thinking it. That's my ability. I'm a mind reader. All of the staff here also have abilities. It's one of the only reasons why the government is adamant on keeping us around. We keep the dangerous out of the human society. And no, I'm not calling us whatever society gave to the superpowered. We are still indeed human but in order to keep them safe, we train here until our abilities are under control," She explains, looking at the clock in the back of the room.
She pauses for a moment before continuing, "Some of us have the normal ones, such as superspeed, telepathy — and no, T that's not the same — and of course other abilities and superpowers. Others have more unique ones. Others know that one's abilities are activated when their eyes start to glow. Depending on our eye color, the glow in our eyes usually matches."
"I told you!" N exclaims, hitting K, "You didn't flipping believe me."
"Damn it, women, why do you hit so hard?" He groans, rubbing his arm.
"Aren't you a streetfighter? Man up, K. My gosh. You should be able to take a hit, man," She retorts, facing the front again. "I didn't even hit you that hard."
"Enough, N," T stands between them and faces Kennedy. "You can continue, Miss."
She chuckles, "Thank you, T. But I'm sure it's fine, these two are quite entertaining."
He hums, glaring at the two.
"Anyways, N apparently noticed how my eyes glowed when I was first talking to you. My ability was active to figure out your names so I can explain everything. I know that no one really explained how to school works so I'm taking the liberty to. The glow in mine are yellow since my eyes are hazel. The glow is faint but noticeable enough for others to see."
Ms. Kennedy glances at the clock again before gasping, "Oh my goodness. I kept you here long enough, I'm sure another teacher would explain the rest. Get going to your next class."
She rushes them out of the door and sighs, "I told him to stop with that procedure. He said he would. He fucking lied."
