"Will you sing for me?" his question startles me, I was just dosing off. I maneuver my head around to look up at him, my ear and cheek numb from leaning on his chest. I can see his eyes are glazed over and he's struggling to hold them open, too scared to go to sleep, too scared to face the demons that wait for him on the other side of consciousness.

"Sure." I say softly, resting my head once more on his chest and staring into the crackling fire. I clear my throat and begin to sing the valley song...

Down in the valley, the valley so low,

Hang your head over, hear the wind blow,

Hear the wind blow, dear, hear the wind blow,

Hang your head over, hear the wind blow......

By the time I've finished the song Peeta's almost asleep, relaxed by the memories the song brought.

"Thank you...." he murmurs before slipping away.

"It's OK Peeta. Go to sleep now, I'll keep you safe..." I say gently before hesitating at the memory of how he'd once been the one who'd said this to me. How he protected me. A warm sensation fills me up, I feel loved once more.

"Sleep." I smile before continuing with my song..... just for Peeta.
