"What's going on in here?" Pepper asks, standing in my bedroom doorway.
"Rearranging." I answer back, laying on my bed and using my powers to move around my furniture. "You know, you should go into the moving business, it would be pretty easy for you." she jokes, laughing to herself. I roll my eyes, out of all the telekinesis cracks I've heard around here, Pepper's are usually the worst, "Very funny, ever considered comedy?" I shoot back, gaining a 'psh' out of her. "Anyway, dinner almost ready, wash up and come down." she instructs, then turns around to leave. My room is a mess, all the furniture pulled away from the walls creating small paths to make it out the door. I decide to leave the state of my room alone until after dinner, getting out of bed and going down stairs to the kitchen.
When I reach the bottom of the stairs, everyones already at the table. Steve and Natasha are handing around bowls with food in them, while everyone else is casually chatting. I take a seat and grab the the bowl of mashed potatoes and plopping some on my plate. "Any weekend plans Rebel?" Bruce asks, pouring himself a drink, "I don't know, maybe hang with Parker, get some things done in the lab with Tony?" I reply, forking a piece of meat and putting it into my mouth. "Count me out, Pepper and I have a conference in Seattle tomorrow." Tony interjects, looking to Pepper who is nodding in agreement, "Then I guess I'll just be hanging with Peter then" I correct. "How was everyone's Friday?" Pepper asks, changing the subject, receiving a mix of 'okays' and 'mehs' from the crowd.
...
It's Saturday and everyone out doing something...except for me. I'm flipping through Hulu shows in the living room when my phone dings.
Parker Hey, you busy?
Rebel Hulu...so no.
Parker Cool. Be ready, I'll be there in 10
Flinging off my blanket, I get up off the coach. I don't bother changing into real clothes because Peter usually doesn't care either way, I slip on my shoes and wait for him to text.
Parker I'm out front, come down.
Rebel Liked & seen 'I'm out front, come down.'
I ride the elevator down to the lobby of the tower and see a 1994 Toyota Carrolla parked out front. Thinking Peter had walked or taken a bus, I wait by the door for him to appear.
Parker What are you waiting for? get in loser.
I look down at my phone and then back up at the car, whosever in the front seat is waving in my direction so I assume that's Peter. I open the back seat of the car and slide next to Ned, "Rebel you came!" Ned exclaims excitedly, "Wait whats going on?" I ask, confused as why everyone is in the car. Ned cuts in, "He didn't tell you? We're going to Massachusetts!" he says wildly. "MASSACHUSETTS?!" I ask stunned, "Yeah, my grandma has a cabin up there and invited us up for the night" Michelle says, turning around in the drivers seat. "Yeah, Tony doesn't mind if you 'spend the night at my place' right?" Peter asks, inferring Tony wasn't aware about the trip, "Well he won't be home till tomorrow so he'll never need to know." I say, flashing a mischievous smile, "But why didn't you tell me, I could have put some real clothes on!" I say, embarrassed that I'm wearing my space cat pajama pants in front of both Ned and Michelle. "Who cares? it'll be a fashion statement!" Ned buts in. "Great! ready to roll?" Michelle says hitting the stirring wheel and putting the car into drive.
...
"MJ can we please pull over, I've gotta pee!" Ned whines next to me, "No! we already wasted too much time at the last gas station, why didn't you go there?" Michelle says, sounding like 'Annoyed Dad™', "I didn't have to go back then!" he says, sounding like a child, which earns a laugh out of Peter. Instead of answering, Michelle hands back an empty McDonalds cup, both Peter and I yell "NO!" when Ned thinks about taking it from her. "You guys are such babies, geez" Michelle says, taking the cup back and putting it in the cup holder, "Just hold it Ned, we're like a half hour away." Peter says, looking a the map.
"Are you sure this is the right exit MJ?" Peter says, skeptically, "Yes, I'm sure, I've been here a million times!" she assures, but it doesn't seem to convince Peter. "Yea I know its just the map says-" Peter begins, but is cut off by Michelle "Would you drop the map already, I know what I'm doing!".
I look next to me and Ned is drifting off to sleep again, throughout most of this three hour ride he's been snoring, note to self: call shot gun on the way back. "So what are we gonna do when we get there?" I ask, trying to breaking the weird tension, "Well there is a fire place, and hot tub outside, and...I brought hotdogs for dinner." Michelle answers, adding extra emphasis on the hotdogs. I make a noise in acknowledgment instead of a verbal response, I guess I wasn't feeling the same enthusiasm for the hotdogs as she was.
...
"La douceur du foyer!"Michelle says, stepping out of the parked car. The building is a dark brown log cabin with a wrap around porch and stairs leading up. "Where's you grandmother then?" Peter asked, confused as why our car was the only one here. "Oh yea, well my grandmother died like 3 years ago, so technically now my dad owns it now." Michelle says before making her way up the stairs, both Ned and Peter exchange glances. Peter, Ned, and I bring up the few bags from the car and put them down in the living room, the interior is also the same dark wood as the exterior, and the fireplace and countertops match the same kind of gray stone. "Hm, cool, where's our rooms and what's with the sleeping bags?" Ned asks, noticing the red and blue sleeping bags Michelle had gotten out. "Well I forgot to mention there is only one bed room, so you boys will be sleeping out here." Michelle says, motioning to the floor near the fireplace and kicks the bags in their direction. Ned groans in protest and Peter just slaps him on the back and says "C'mon man, it'll be fun, just like when we were kids!". Ned mumbles something under his breath that goes unheard and starts to undo his sleeping bag along with Peter.
