After you read this chapter (because I know the prologue wasn't much to go by), I would love to know what you think of the general plot line (also in the description, if you get confused). It is, of course, subject to change, because I happen to be a bit fickle minded. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please tell me!! Anyway, thank you for reading my story, it really means a lot! I hope you enjoy. Please vote and comment (I really do read all of them!), it is always much appreciated!

~Dreaming of Darcy~

Chapter 1

-----

“Good evening, Miss Laila, a pleasure to see you here tonight. Would you honor me with a dance?”

“Oh, Darcy, what a surprise! It would be my pleasure.” I blushed slightly, as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy took my gloved hand, inwardly gloating as I watched that horrendous Lizzie Bennett glaring at me from across the room.

-----

“Laila! Laila! Wake up, Professor Morgan is walking over. Laila!”

I awoke suddenly as I felt something jabbing into my side. “Ow, Nate! What the hell was that for? I was in the middle of a wonderful dream,” I hissed, gingerly rubbing the area where he had poked me with his pencil.

“I told you, Professor Morgan is walking over here. You don't want to get caught sleeping in class again. You know that it could jeopardize your eligibility for the Oxford/Cambridge tour this summer!”

“Sigh...yes, I know, Nate, thank you for waking me up. What weird theory are we talking about anyway?” English classes were weird at the college I went to. They were all themed in some way. Unfortunately, I had to get stuck in the one that was about theories surrounding the lives of famous authors and poets. Too bad we never did anything on Jane Austen. Now that would have been interesting.

“I'm not exactly sure. Something about some lady named Jane Ralston or something. She wrote some book like Pride and Sensibility or something.”

That caught my attention. Maybe I was mistaken about the merit of this class after all. “Nate! Do you mean Jane Austen?? The author of Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility?”

“Oh yeah, that was the one. I wonder why she sounds so familiar.”

“Shut up, you dummy! You know that she is my favorite author ever! The creator of Mr. Darcy!”

“Ohhh, right. Now I remember. I think that after class we shou--”

“Shush, I want to listen,” I said, cutting off Nate and turning to look at Professor Morgan.

“Here is a short video clip about the Jane Austen theory. For homework, I would like everyone to find one article regarding the theory. Be prepared to discuss it in class tomorrow. You may leave once the video is over.”

Narrator from video: After long and extensive research, archaeologist Kitty Dashwood has found the long lost diary of Jane Austen. In it, Austen reveals the inspiration for her stories. It has been discovered that Pride and Prejudice mirrored Austen's own life for the most part. Fitzwilliam Darcy appears to have been Austen's lover who was lost at sea right before their wedding. Darcy in the book is based on him exactly, right down to being a namesake. It appears that Darcy was not completely lost after all and ended up on the shores of Ireland, where he led the rest of his life, leaving poor Austen behind. Though no one is quite sure if Darcy ever married, his grave has been found and DNA samples have been taken. It seems that there has been a DNA match with a Mr. Gregory Darcy who currently resides somewhere in Britain.

Damn, so I was right. It seems that my Mr. Darcy really does exist somewhere out there. I was suddenly very glad that I had decided to do the Oxford tour this summer. It would make finding Mr. Darcy that much easier.
