Will It Get Better

I awoke one morning by a sudden chiliness. I looked around and saw snow. More snow than there was yesterday. It was currently still snowing and frost was all over my body. Being so still didn't help. I moved my arms and legs to generate heat quickly.

When the frost was gone, so was the blood from my leg. The snow melted and washed it all off. Now I could see how bad it was. Five marks were plastered into my leg, and they began to turn red. My leg became just the same as it was before: bloody. What a waste of snow. I think you ice things when they are bad, so I grabbed some snow from a near by branch and held it to the injury. It melted fairly quickly and I grabbed some more. After countless times of icing, and a frozen stiff leg, I stopped. I looked at my leg to see that the blood had stopped for now. I did some leg movements to top it off.

After that I went to sleep.

The next day I did the same thing. I did the icing then the exercise. I was almost out of snow one day, but it snowed the next day. My leg still had the teeth marks, but it no longer bled. I had absolutely no ideas how to get rid of that,no I just waited it out.

Two more weeks passed, and I counted out that I'd been here three weeks and one day total. My skin had become gray-ish and pale, and my waist was so thin. I have been eating, just not enough, I guess. My limit is good though. It ensures that I have enough food for the entire winter. If not, I wouldn't have anything to eat.

My thought came to Butler next. He never has to worry about food. He can just go in the forest and kill something to eat. His life is so simple, mine isn't.

I began to worry about my health, I have a bad leg and don't eat enough. Will my leg ever get better? I won't know until I try to use it. So one day I tried to leave the tree.

I sling my sack to a lower branch only a few feet away from me. Then I pulled both my legs to the edge. Exercising my bad leg was a good idea, because now it only hurts a little when I move it. I felt like a monkey as I grabbed the branch with my arms and swayed to the branch below me. Me leg wasn't a burden yet, so I tried something else.

I tossed my sack down two more branches, and tried that. I successfully managed that, so went on more. I went down to where I saw marks on the trees. Claw marks were all over the base of the tree, making want to go back up to safety. This is were the wolves can reach... where they bit me. I gulped and looked at the sun. If I go down now maybe I'll have time to make it home before the sun sets. I looked back at the sun, then to my leg. I have to try.

I let down and landed on my good foot, while the bad one was being held in the air. I reached up and grabbed my sack, then went to the direction home was. I was basically hopping home, for I was afraid to put my foot down and walk on it.

After walking for only a few minutes, I was tired. I wasn't used to moving like this. I've been in a tree for three weeks, so this should be normal.

I finally found the rock that was familiar. I sat on it and ate when I first starting exploring and found out that I forgot to eat. This mean I'm close. Only a few minutes away.

Then, I saw it. I saw Butler and Chirp, and my home behind them. Tears came to my eyes as I walked into the home that I missed so much. The home that gave me safety and comfort in this cold world.
