New Haven Police Department-Thomas

"You okay?"

Without looking over at Y/N, I shook my head. I sucked in a breath when I felt her reach over and grab my hand.

"It's this area, huh?" She asked. I glanced over at her driving and could tell that she wasn't expecting me to actually answer her. "Something happened that night you ended all of this. Something happened or. . ."

She looked over at me, her eyes dropping. "Oh," she whispered. "You lost someone, didn't you?"

"Two someones," I said, looking out the window.

"I'm sorry," she whispered.

I just sighed, unsure of what else to say to her. So, instead, we sat in silence as we drove through the old city.

"I think I found the source of the ruckus," Y/N said, shaking her head. I looked over to see her sending me a knowing look before nodding towards a group of guys.

"Great," I sighed when I saw the men throwing empty beer bottles at the wall. I got a sick feeling in my stomach when I saw them look over their shoulders at us.

Y/N pulled the car over and we carefully got out. I sent her a look as we walked over to them. "How are you tonight, gentlemen?" Y/N asked.

They looked at us, instantly looking her up and down. I couldn't help but feel angry when I saw the looks in their eyes as they scanned her body. I grabbed Y/N's arm stepping ahead of her as a few of the guys started reaching behind themselves.

"Thomas," she whispered as I put my hand on my gun, putting myself between her and these guys.

Before I could say anything, all of the guys pulled out hidden guns and pointed them at us. We instinctively pulled ours out.

"Put your weapons down, now!" Y/N yelled.

"You first," one of the guys scoffed.

"Is that little Thomas?"

I looked over, my heart dropping when I recognized one of the guys as an old WICKED guard. Y/N looked over at me with worried eyes. I rolled my shoulders as I clenched my jaw.

"Do as she says and lower your weapons," I ordered through my teeth. I could feel Y/N's gaze on me but I didn't look away from the guys with their guns still pointed at us.

We ducked behind an old garbage can as they started firing us. We got a few shots in but they had us pinned. I looked over at Y/N to see her already looking at me.

Every time we tried to get out from behind where we were hiding, they immediately shot at us. "We're pinned," I said angrily. I looked up, nervous when I saw the look on Y/N's face. "What?"

"I think I have a plan."

"Think?"

"But it's risky."

"Well then. . ." Before I could tell her that we would find a different way out, she jumped up. "Y/N!"

I stood up to see her running towards them. As she ran, hopping over garbage, she got in a few shots. Y/N wasn't the kind of cop, or girl, who would kill someone. Even if they deserved it. So, each shot that left her gun, hurt the guy she was aiming at, but none of them were kill-shots.

Me on the other hand. . .

I quickly ran to her aide, shooting the guys she wasn't aiming at. Once we had got them all, I ran towards her as she reloaded her gun before putting it away.

"Are you alright?" I asked, copying her movements and putting my gun away.

"Yeah," she said, slightly laughing. "I think so."

"Killer aim, Cop Lady."

We both turned around, instantly pointing our guns at the only guy left. "Put your gun down," Y/N said.

How was she able to sound sweet when she was threatening a purp?

"You're outnumbered," I said quickly.

"Sure," he shrugged. "But all I need is speed."

Time slowed down as he started to move his gun towards me. Y/N saw what he was doing before he even did it. Right as he pulled the trigger, Y/N pushed me out of the way.

Time sped back up as Y/N fell to the ground, clutching her side. The guy turned to run away but my anger took over.

"Not fast enough, you son of a bitch," I said between my teeth after I shot him. This one was a kill shot.

I put my gun back in my holster and ran towards Y/N. I pulled her into my chest, wrapping my arms around her.

"Are you okay? Where are you hit?"

"Just my side," she said between her teeth. She looked up at me and smiled weekly at me.

"Are you sure?" I stuttered. "Y/N." Her name got caught in my throat and my eyes widened when I saw the red seeping through her uniform.

"Hey," she said gently. "I'll be fine, Thomas."

I looked into her eyes, hesitating. Ever since I lost Teresa and Newt, I haven't allowed myself to get closer to anyone else. But subconsciously, I had gotten close to Y/N.

I cupped her cheek in my hand, hesitating. She looked up at me and smiled, which gave me the confidence to do something stupid. I leaned down and pressed my lips to hers. I let out a sigh of relief as she started kissing me back, running her fingers through my hair.

I pulled away, leaning my forehead against hers as we caught our breaths.

"Come on," I whispered. "We should get you some help."

She nodded as she bit her lip. I stood up and helped Y/N to her feet. I wrapped my arm around her and walked her back to the car. I helped her in before jogging around to the driver's side. When I got in, I instantly sped back towards New Haven constantly glancing over at Y/N.

"Eyes on the road, Speedy," Y/N laughed weakly.

"Sorry," I stuttered. "I just. . ."

"I'm fine, Thomas," she sighed. She reached over and grabbed my hand, instantly intertwining our fingers.

"I just. . . I don't. . . I lost my best friend and my first love. I can't lose anyone else."

"Whoa," she said, laughing slightly. I bit my lip and looked over at her as she squeezed my hand. "You're not going to lose me, partner. I promise."
