Begonia Heights: Home of the rare Middle-Mist Begonia.
A Small town filled with big people of all sorts . A unique melting pot of people of all ethic roots and different backgrounds. You never exactly knew who you were going to run into along the street or at the local farmers market in a city like this one. Located on the outskirts of northern California very close to the Montana border, you'd have to take your right thumb place it 35 degrees away from your face and squint your left eye to see it on a map. But nonetheless it was there and special in its own right. Some of it's wonders other than the rare and elusive Middle Mist Begonia had to be the constant rain it got throughout year. Begonia heights is the type of place where you accidentally stumbled upon from taking a wrong turn on a roadtrip. And never wanted to leave.
It was always bursting with life much like on a certain summer day where temperatures had reached a new record.
From the sounds of chattering and bickering that came from haggling customers and stand owners at the Farmer's Market to the clicking and ringing of bike bells as the children rode around on bikes hoping to catch up to the ice cream that always seemed to elude them.
The city was alert and fun.
You couldn't frown on days like this where the smell of delicious BBQ from Mr. Ruebens BBQ hut whiffed through the air and music coming from musicians playing in the town square echoed throughout the city.
But a certain little girl walking along the creaked downtown sidewalk with her grandfather was conjuring up the biggest possible frown she could, " It's just not fair Paw-Paw." The girl loudly exclaimed as she walked through downtown with her grandfather hand and hand.
Cider Pierce smiled down at his eight year-old grand-daughter Allonjah and her cute little scrunched up nose as she pleaded with him to let her stay and live with him " Forever & Infinity " instead of going back home to New York to her Mother and family for the start of the school year.
" I know Birdie Bird , Paw-Paw doesn't really want ya' to leave either. Shoot! If I had it my way you'd stay with me and Georgia all year round but ya' mama wants ya' home to go back to school." He sadly broke the news.
He watched the little girls chestnut eyes began to fill to the brim with tears. "Hey Hey Hey." He cooed quickly using what little " Old Man Strength" he had left to pick up the now sobbing child. Going over and sitting on a nearby city bench he his best to tried to console his granddaughter.
" Ssh ssh ssh. It's gonna be okay birdie girl." He calmed rubbing circles into her back while he listen to her sobs quiet into to mere little whimpers of sadness. " Look at Paw-paw." He softly instructed.
Slowly pulling away Allonjah revealed her red puffy eyes and tear stained face looking up directly at her grandpa, " It doesn't matter how far away we may be from each-other. I'm always with you no matter everyday and you're always with everyday too. And you wanna know why." He posed.
" W-Why." The little girl hiccuped.
Cider smiled at his granddaughter, " Because as long as we have love in each other's hearts for one another, we're truly neva' eva' apart." He assured poking at her chest making her giggle in delight.
Allonjah nodded at her grandfather but questioned him, " But I still don't want to go back to New York because nobody there loves me like you." Allonjah grumbled.
Cider's eyebrows raised at the statement in confusion, " And why would you think something like that? " He asked.
" Because Paw-Paw Mommy doesn't pay attention to me because she's always taking care of Tristan since he's little and then Sabine cause she's always getting in trouble at school. Then Sabine always makes fun of me calling me snaggle puss and Aunt Jemima because I lost my two front teeth last Christmas and my hair is not curly like Sabine's. And when I try to tell daddy instead of mommy he doesn't do anything but tell me I'm being whiny." She confided referring to her much coiler four type hair that was currently twisted in a bun thanks to her grandfather's neighbor Mrs. Eva.
