Chapter one
Life is going to be the death of me. I sit here everyday doing the same thing. It all feels so boring. I wake up, go to school, go home, and repeat. It's the same cycle, same routine everyday. All I really want is something exhilarating to happen. Literally anything.
The rays of sun pierced through my window and were annoyingly beating off of my face. It was my signal that it was time to wake up. Thanks to the pesky sun, I woke up ten minutes before my alarm went off. I sat up on my bed trying to fully wake myself up before getting ready. I then did the whole morning routine and finally went down stairs to the kitchen.
My brother was already devouring his breakfast while my mom sat next to him doing some work on her laptop. I said good morning to them and started preparing my food, which wasn't that had because I was only going to eat a cup of yogurt. Once I had 'made' my breakfast, I went and sat down next to my mom. We all sat in silence for a while, it wasn't awkward, it's just no one had anything to say. After a minute or two my mom finally spoke,
"And, done!" she said excitedly.
I assume she had just finished some sort of paperwork for her job.
"How did you guys sleep?" my mom asked trying to make small talk.
"Fine" I replied, even though I had only gotten four hours of sleep. My brother, Liam, didn't respond, but I could tell he didn't sleep. The bags under his eyes were so apparent, I'm surprised my mom even asked in the first place.
I finished eating and cleaned up what little mess I made. I grabbed my book bag and loudly said a collective goodbye to my family, except my dad, who had been gone for a week on a business trip in Washington.
As I walked out the door, Miles, pulled up to my house and obnoxiously honked his horn. I rolled my eyes to try and hide my giddy smile. He knew that he was embarrassing me and was having way too much fun. I wasn't embarrassed though, if anything I found it quite funny. As the horn continued I ran to the can and opened the passenger side door. I playfully slapped his arm and demanded that he stopped his antics. Even after that show he pretended he had no idea what I was talking about. I started laughing at how outrageous he was acting. I get in Miles' car and he starts driving in the direction of the highschool.
I'm a senior in highschool and Miles is a Freshman in college. And I know he's older than me, but it's only by a year and a half and we are both happy together. Plus we started dating last year, so it's not like we're going to break up now that he is in college.
The drive to school is quick, only about five minutes, so we don't really talk that much. Instead we have a special playlist we made for our car rides and we jam along to. Right now we are both belting All Star and just enjoy how much we both sucked at singing. As the song ended, we pulled up to the high school's entrance and I was about to hop out of the car. But before I got to, Miles stopped me and said,
"Hey, just so you know I won't be able to come over today I have a job interview around the time you get out".
"Noooo" I said as I let my head fall. We always hung out once I got out of school, and I didn't want to not see him later.
"I'm sorry, but I kind of need this job", I knew he was right, I was just going to miss him. I replied, " I know, I'm just going to miss you" I said with puppy eyes.
"I'll try and come over after" Miles said with a wink.
My expression immediately changed from sad to overjoyed. I was ok with seeing him later, as long as I got to spend time with him I was ok.
I gave him a peck on the cheek and jumped out of the car before he could see me blushing. I shut the door and started walking away. I turned around before he started driving away and gave him a little wave.
It was now time for my least favorite part of the day, school. I have a good group of friends, and ok grades but it was all so boring. It's always been hard for me to motivate myself to do things I don't enjoy, and school is no exception.
I walk in the hellish building and go to the cafeteria to wait for the first bell to ring. As I walk in I see my friend group. I throw my book bag down and take a seat next to my best friend Quinn. I immediately put my head down and groaned. I could tell that she could tell I didn't want to be there.
"Hey there sunshine" she said to me sarcastically. I groaned again instead of using words to reply.
"Come on, let's walk to class" she urged me to get up, and I complied. And with that, it was the start to the end.
