The main character of this book is the daughter of a duke, born in the year of 1860. She's terminally ill, therefore preventing her from doing the things a young woman would do. Please do keep in mind that the starting of this book occurs in an era of the middle ages / medieval times so practices and speech will be unusual.

Seraphina Lennox, sick and weak, miraculously made it to her nineteenth birthday. She hadn't abilities and privileges like the normal children when she was growing up but not once did she look to God and curse him. Instead, she was greatful for another day of life, praying for the strength to face another.
T'was the eighteen hundreds; women's rights and their roles were suppressed but Seraphina, who was born into wealth, had an advantage. She had attended school when she was able to and from the moment she was bed ridden, she had the luxury of homeschooling. Not once did this Lennox take for granted her opportunities as she would also look out at the ordinary women of the town and once again praise and thank God for what he had blessed her with.
"So why, on the night of her nineteenth birthday, would she want to lose all hope and give it up?" one might ask. Well, did she really give up or was this another mysterious work of God?
