I turned to face 'prince Jackson'. His face was in a wide grin as he looked at my reaction. "Oh yea we have already met." I explained to Eldred.
"Yep and we got on fabulously." Jackson said snaking his arm around my waist. I tried to wriggle out of it but I didn't want to look like I was being rude, after all he was the future king.
"Well we had better be going then Tania." Eldred said gesturing me to follow him and Myle.
"I think I will come as well."Jackson said, his arm still around my waist.
"As you wish sire." Eldred said leading us to the king.
*
'Eldred my dear fellow how are you?" Audric said with open arms.
"Very well sire." Eldred replied politely, bowing courteously
"Jackson, son, what are you doing here." The king asked boldly.
"To make a small request father. I would like Tania to be my maid." Jackson replied
I frowned at Eldred but he gave me no eye contact.
"Ah, then this is the girl whom you were telling me about Eldred?" The king asked
"Indeed sire." Replied Eldred.
"So Tania it seems like my son has requested to have you as his personal servant..." The king walked up close to me and examined my face closely.
"That will be all thank you Eldred." The king said turning away from me and walking back over to his scary looking guard in the corner. I bowed my head then followed Eldred and Myle out of the hall. Not wanting to be stuck with the cocky prince any longer I hurried quickly behind Myle before the prince stepped out of the hall.
"So what do I have to do as the princes servant? I thought he would normally have men being his servants." I asked quizzically.
"The point precisely, you won't just be fulfilling the jobs he needs to you to do but also...other needs." Eldred said looking across at Myle who did look both slightly jealous and angry but also rather worried.
"I don't understand." I replied
"Basically you are like a mistress but also a servant at the same time." Myle said
"What you mean I have to do...with him if he wants me to." I asked shocked.
"Pretty much." Myle said looking away, for some reason she seemed angry with me, but I had done absolutely nothing wrong.
"Right I'm going to speak with him now!" I cried.
"Just be careful Tania, he is the future king remember and you don't want to make yourself an enemy of one of the most dangerous and powerful men." Eldred said, I just stood there in horror as they both turned the corner. I walked around a few corridors before I asked someone where the prince's room were. After following the directions I reached the door of prince Jackson. The door looked like any other of the hundreds in the palace but there was something about it, the way people walked past it, as if they were scared to disturb him or even just scared of him in general. Nobody seemed to be around and apart from a few knights whom I had walked past and had winked at me.
Plucking up my courage, I knocked on his door. A few seconds later a scruffy, weedy looking boy popped his head around the door. "Who is it" he said not looking out of the door, when he turned to see me he said "oh sorry miss, how may I help you." He asked flirtatiously.
"I'm here to see the prince." I said boldly.
"He's a bit busy at the moment miss...."
"Just let her in Malcolm" I heard the prince say impatiently . Malcolm nodded and opened the door wider to allow me into the princes room. The room was gigantic, the walls were painted dark crimson. The room was furnished with expensive looking wooden chests with streaks of gold running through them. Paintings of previous kings were littered around the room. A huge mahogany table was at the centre, covered in armour, swords, papers, maps, money, jewels and even a crown. At the far end lay the most magnificent bed I had ever seen. It had gilded gold on the four posts and the bed covers were cotton and silk. I had a massive crown on the top and you could tell that it was for a king.
The prince was just buttoning up his shirt and I got a glimpse of his defined stomach. Embarrassed I quickly looked away.
"Don't be shy Tania, cause your gonna be seeing plenty more of that." The prince said smirking at me.
"About that." I started.
"Malcolm you can leave now." The prince ordered gesturing to the door. Malcolm bowed his head and scuttled out of the room.
"Now how can I help you?" The prince said walking over to his table and began looking at his swords.
"Well I was just wondering..." I started the prince just smirked at me and walked up to me.
"Look I really don't have time to chat, I only hired you cause your nice to look at, so I would like it if you could just do what I say and don't give me any back chat." The prince said harshly.
"What! But..." I said. He placed his fingers on my lips.
"Shhhh, your beauty decreases every time you open your mouth. Now go and get me some lunch and bring it to the training field." He turned me around and pushed me towards the door and slapped my bum.
"Hey" I cried on anger but the prince merely grinned and slammed the door.
The prince was an arrogant pig. I stormed off towards the kitchens.
*
It was incredibly easy to find the kitchen. I simply followed the rich smell of too much food being cooked. The smell hit me like a wall as I walked through the archway into the kitchen. The atmosphere was hectic. Cooks were shouting at various kitchen maids who were all chopping, stirring or baking something laden in rich fruits, meats and sugars.
"Hello" I said, no one seemed to notice, hear or even acknowledge me. "Hello!" I shouted, yet still no one heard me. Grabbing a copper pan and ladle I stood on the nearest table, amongst vegetables, and bashed the pan loudly against the ladle. Everyone went silent and looked at me in amusement.
"'ow may we 'elp ya ma'am?" A portly women in her late thirties demanded. You could tell she was the head cook just by her posture and superiority over the kitchen maids.
"I'm new here and I really have no idea what I am doing. The prince wants me to be his servant but he is being a pig." I blurted out, the few girls next to me stepped back in horror. "Pig? Oh sorry I meant fig, where I come from a fig is a scared fruit and only those of high status can be called one." I quickly covered up my insult. The maids laughed and nodded. "Anyway, he wants his lunch and I certainly can't cook unless you want the castle to be incinerated, so could someone please help me out." I begged. The head cook laughed, from out of the shadows stepped Myle.
"I'll help her out everyone else can just carry on." Myle said smiling at me. Everyone paused then continued with their shouting as the head cook gestured for them to begin.
Myle carried over a plate with two pieces of bread, meat and a few pieces of cheese. The plate made my mouth water.
"Here you go, that's everything, oh hold on I'll just grab you come ale as well." Myle handed me the plate and the bottle.
"Thanks Myle." I smiled as I turned and walked out of the boisterous kitchen.
The training field was at the back of the castle. It was a huge field filled with arenas, jousting pitches and tents full of armour and weaponry. This place would be any kings playground. In the middle of the field I heard loud shouts and jeers. At the centre of the crowd was Prince Jackson. As I neared I saw a crowd in a circle around the prince who was fighting another knight. The crowd got louder and louder as the fight got more fierce. I managed to push my way to the front of the circle with my plate of food. Jackson was easily beating the poor knight. I had never seen someone as good with the sword as Jackson in my life. His perfect blonde hair shone like satin gold in the sun. His bright green eyes were focused and alert. His muscles flexed with his every attack and move. Suddenly his opponent was on the floor and everyone around me was shouting and cheering. Several knights slapped him on the back I just stood there in awe. A few men turned to look at me and started pointing and muttering at me. I took a deep breath and walked up to the prince.
"Your lunch sire." I presented. The prince frowned looking at the plate then back up at me.
"What is this." He asked rudely gesturing at the plate. I frowned.
"Your lunch." I repeated.
"Is this my lunch?" The prince asked all the knights around him burst into fits of laughter.
"Yes sire."
"You think I'm going to eat that, that's something a stable boy would eat."
"I'm sorry but the kitchen said.."
The prince grabbed the plate and chucked it on the ground. He pulled the bottle from my grasp, opened the top and poured it into the soil.
"Ale, ALE! I'm the future king not a servant." He cried chucking the bottle to the floor.
"I'm sorry sire." I cried biting my lip.
"You had better make up for you little mistake honey." He said the Knights around him nudged him knowingly.
"You know what, get your own lunch" I cried throwing the tray onto the floor and storming off into the castle.
