**********************************************
Breaking news, Colin Rodgers aged 34 has been found dead in his house. Colin and his wife Hannah purchased a new house 3 weeks ago and had settled in well with their 10-year-old daughter. Unfortunately, all the evidence is pointing towards suicide. We have a statement from his distraught wife, its completely unexpected, he had no signs of mental health trouble. I thought he was happy. I just dont know what to do anymore its all come as such a shock. All I can do now is keep going for Chloe shes all I have left. Police are doing everything they can for the family at this time.
DCI summer was sitting in his office all the evidence spread out on his desk before him. It seemed like a simple open and shut case. Although the noose hadnt been found tied in the normal way seen in suicide cases. It looked like Colin had done a lot of previous research, but he couldnt find a shred of evidence to prove that. Nothing on the search histories of his laptop, phone or work computer. A suicide note was yet to be found. If one was discovered it would be easier for him to believe that it was just suicide and there was nothing more sinister underlying the death. He was trying to stay away from the house, crime scene, the family were going through enough trauma. With it being deemed a suicide with no signs of foul play they had allowed them to return home. DCI summer seemed to be the only one that thought there was any sort of foul play at foot. Yes, the guy had no signs of mental health but that didnt always mean that they werent suffering. He knew from experience that family members were good at hiding these sorts of things. There was just a feeling deep in his gut telling him something was wrong although he couldnt put his finger on what it was. Although nobody else in his unit would listen to him, to them it was an open and shut case, there was something he just couldnt shake off. At least he had managed to put his mind at rest by giving Hannah his card telling her that she could ring night or day about anything. In his gut he knew there was more to this story.
Sitting at home the first night shed been allowed home since they had lost Colin, Hannah couldnt settle. Everything felt so different, her entire life had been destroyed. Colin and their little family meant the world to her and she couldnt understand why it didnt mean the same to him. Not that she believed that he had ended his own life. She wanted to do some more digging of her own, convinced that he wouldnt do that to them. Colin never had been one to take the easy way out, this was all completely out of character. Hannah knew her husband and knew that he hadnt done this no matter what the police thought and had ruled. Hannah kept roaming, walking from room to room, Chloe was staying at her Nannas. Hannah wanting to be alone to try to discover for herself what had happened to her husband, knowing in her heart he hadnt killed himself. The only problem was the lack of evidence of a break in or anybody else having been in the house at the time. Hannah had taken Chloe to the cinema to see a film shed been nagging to see, when they returned their life had fallen apart. Luckily, she had managed to protect Chloe from seeing her fathers body. pushing her out of the house and into the garden before breaking down.
As much as walking was helping keep her occupied, Hannahs mind wouldnt switch off. Just kept asking herself, Why? What did I miss? Every time she walked past the landing, the place where it happened, she felt a shiver run down her spine. She could feel his presence she just didnt know what he was trying to tell her. Suddenly she felt the urge to search the house, look everywhere she could, rip it all apart. Not knowing what she was looking for, although if anybody asked, shed say that she was searching for a note. All her body, her mind, heart and soul were telling her was to search and she had no idea what she was searching for, but she was convinced that it was Colin needing her to do it. Surely all he was doing was trying to protect her as he always had done, although thinking that maybe thats why she didnt see this coming, maybe the police were right. She didnt believe that though, she needed to hold on to the tiny bit of hope she had that it wasnt what everybody seemed to believe it was.
Since Hannah got back to the house she could sense a presence in the upstairs rooms of the house, the air felt heavier, cooler. Standing on the landing she could have sworn that she felt a cold hand brushing down her arm. Not believing what she was feeling, Hannah was slowly convincing herself that she was going mad from grief, or so she thought. By night all she could feel was the horror of her husbands death. By day all she could think about was what was happening in the night. Not being able to stop thinking, head whirring. Either walking room to room, trying to keep herself busy, or sitting in a corner gently rocking and muttering to herself.
