There is a saying I was told once that has stuck with me since I was a kid. "Without dreams we have nothing." I never knew what that meant but I always remembered that saying. I was 5 years old when I was told that. That was 20 years ago. To this day I have built, designed and painted my own place. In my living room above my couch I painted that saying so I can see it everyday as I try to continue with my life. That saying has saved me several times from my episodes of severe depression and suicide thoughts.

I will sit in my living room where I face the wall as the sun would hit the sky blue walls making the words pop out. I would stare at that wall for hours before I would make myself something to eat. I grew up in an unpleasant household. Siblings fighting everyday. Parents getting divorced. Siblings moving out leaving me all alone with a mother who was barely there.

Eventually, I called someone to take her away to help her. I couldn't do it. The person who came and got her told me that saying. She, my mom, writes me every month from where she was placed. I love my mom but, I just can't face her.

Once I got a job at 14 years old I saved that money to build this place of solitude. I was given a week off from work so I could get all of this done. I recently decided to look up the saying. It doesn't really mean anything. It is an inspirational saying to help those who are lost in life. A dream is like a goal or a purpose in a life. How would you finish a task if there wasn't a goal behind it.

I finish eating, washed my dishes before taking a shower. Then I head to bed so I would be ready to go to work tomorrow. My job is filing documents in the correct folders. I have been working at this job for 11 years. I am happy to behind the scenes, organizing file cabinets so everyone can find everything. I work in a government office and they allow me to do my job. If they need a file they ask me because everything is in it's spot.

5 hours later, I woke up, make my bed, use the rest room, wash my hands before brushing my hair and went back to my room. I got dressed in slacks and blouse. I put my hair up in a nice bun, put my flats on and went down the stairs to eat a quick meal. I left in my old car and got to work early. I am always early. I checked the day to realize it's my birthday. I am 26 years old and I am working like usual. I scan my badge, go to my locked and put my jacket in there.

In the file room is 10 stacks of files for me. I put my headphones in and got to work. 2 hours in and I finished 2 stacks before I sensed someone in the room. I took my headphones out, turned around only to see my older brother with another guy behind him.

"Hello Alexa. It's been years since I have seen you. You were only 5 years old. I left with dad and you were left with mom." Joseph said.

"What are you doing here, Joseph?" I took a step back so I knew I was safe. He looked really sad that I did that.

"Alexa, would you like some privacy?" The other guy said concerned. He stepped forward and I shook my head. He leaned against the wall watching us. He said something quietly and I noticed he has an ear piece in. I have protection at least.

"I came here to see you Alexa. Dad is worried about you. He wants to visit with you. Will you -"

"After watching dad and mom fight as i hid in the closet. Then having to hear all of you guys fight, do you really expect me 12 years later forget about all that!? I was the one who called to put mom in a better situation! Me! None of you guys were around just me. A 5 year old so lost , so confused, so hurt. Why would I want to let you guys back into my life!?" I was staring to yell. "Jordan, can you tell them that I am going on my first break? I'll be back to get the rest of these files put away. If there are anymore files put them with the others." He nods his head and told them. I went to the break room to grab a water before going outside. Joseph followed. That ticked me off.

"He is here, Alexa." As soon as he said that my 'Dad' showed up. Great. Just what I needed on my birthday. I finished my water and put it in the recycle bin. I sat on a bench and adjusted my blouse as he got out of the expensive car.

"Hello, daughter." He said as he walked up to me. I stood up tall wanting to get this over with. My break has 20 minutes left.

"1) You don't have that right to call me your daughter. 2) I told Joseph I didn't want to let you guys back into my life. 3) I am on break. I have 19 minutes left on my break." I told him that without missing a beat. I checked my watch and saw I have 15 minutes left before I go back to work.

"Okay. I got your point Alexa. I would like to actually sit down and talk with you. When is your next day off?" He asks in defeat. I sigh and pinch the bridge of my nose.

"There is visitor parking in the back. Grab a visitor pass and have someone take you to the conference room. I need to get back to work." I walked back in while running a hand down my face. I clock back into work wanting the day to be over with. Jordan walks over to me with a letter addressed to me from my mom. "Thanks Jordan. My 'brother' and 'father' should be in soon. I need to get back to filing. Such a lousy birthday." I tell him before going back to the filing room.

I got straight to work getting everything organized in the correct spot. I finish in an hour which is faster then normal. I open the door to see the whole staff there with a cake and gifts including my 'family.' I put a fake smile on which my 'family' could see through.

I blew candles out and had them place all the gifts on the table neatly. They did and left to go back to work. "Conference room, please." They follow me quietly and sit down before I close the door. I walk over to the table and leaned my hands on it. "I got one question for both of you guys to think about before answering. Why did you abandon me with a mother who lost all will to live?"

They actually thought about it. Joseph said, "Dad, it's time to tell her." Was all Joseph said.

"Alexa, I divorced your mother because she wasn't my mate. I am a werewolf and so is the rest of the family. I found my mate and I am the Alpha of the Red Moon Pack. I took your brothers with me but I couldn't find you. I have been worried about you. I recently found out that you out your mother in a institute for her own well being. I then found out that you have been working here for 12 years." He told me.

"Do you remember when we would play hide and seek and you could never find me? It took 2 hours and all of the family to find me? The one place no one looked was the hallway closet behind all the stuff." They were shocked before realization took over. "If you really were worried about me then you would have come back for me." I hit the table making Joseph jump. "Am I also a werewolf? Or did I not get that gene?" I asked softly as I stared at the table.

"I actually did come back for you but the place was torn down. It was not easy finding you. Joseph here, managed to find you by keeping an eye in this area. You didn't trust anyone and stayed to yourself. The house you built is beautiful. You are a werewolf. I would like to be able you connect with your wolf."

"I just thought it was better to be in hiding until I could make my own place. I still don't trust anyone. My place took 9 years to build the place then got myself a car. I always thought I was hearing voices so I thought I was going crazy but now it makes sense. I just need to accept her. I won't be part of your pack. I have survived on my own for many years. Come by tomorrow to my place at 4:30pm. I get off at 4pm." I left and got back to work.
