While driving home on a quiet backstreet, Character A spots a wounded animal on the side of the road. Having a soft spot for suffering creatures, she scoops up the animal and places it in the passenger seat of her car. She heads home with the good intention of nursing the poor creature back to health, completely unaware of the fact that the injured animal (Character B) is actually a shape-shifter.
After making up a comfortable place for Character B to sleep, Character A heads off to bed.
By morning, Character B is recovering nicely and shifts back into their human form, just as Character A enters the room to check up on them. Character B tries their best to explain what's going on, without terrifying Character A completely. But, according to shape shifter law, Character B owes Character A their loyalty and must stay with them until their debt is repaid.
The thing is that Character A is a high school senior, who's studying to be something great in life, only to have Character B follow her around like a lost puppy dog.
