The 1st poem here entitled "Steamrollin' ahead" focuses on Elvis' performance of the James Taylor classic "Steamroller Blues" from the "Aloha" rehearsal show on the January 12th, 1973. It originates form a slideshow which fellow Elvis friend, Martin Robbins created with my poetry to match the photos he had chosen of the concert performances. This poem depicts the more laid back style and presence of Elvis' persona and performance in that rehearsal show, but also tries to capture that Presley passion that still overrides any form of cool or nervous demeanour he may have conveyed at different junctures in the proceedings. This is "Steamrollin' Ahead" (you can also view the original youtube slideshow attached to this poem)...
Pinnacle in performance
Ignited by chance
A raw rehearsal -
Human and personal
Runway of lighting -
Reflections enlightening
Chameleon of image
Royalty undamaged
A Soul in waiting
Its Music - liberating
Calming of nerves
The Power of verve
Cool in demeanour
A focus so clearer
Streamrollin’ ahead -
Mixing with 'lead'.
Focused in spirit
Audience of merit
Harmony in unison
Melody for sanction
Drama unpeaked -
Tomorrow it seeks
Nerves diminished
Rehearsal - now finished.
