"I still can't believe we're finally seniors," my best friend Sam exclaims as we make our way into the cafeteria for lunch. "I know, I can't believe it either. I just can't wait for it to be over," I sigh, as we take our regular seats in the corner of the cafeteria.
So far, the day hadn't been too bad. Besides regular asshole people and teachers. There had apparently been rumors of a new kid arriving today. A senior; the worst year to transfer. So far neither Sam or I had any sighting of them.
We spent lunch chit chatting about the newest school gossip we heard so far that day, who's dating who, who cheated on who, and who got pregnant over the summer. Apparently, the star quarterback got some other girl pregnant, but if you ask his girlfriend, she'll deny it profusely. Sam and I both have guesses as to who it could be, and we'll figure out who it actually is in I'm guessing a few months.
Not realizing how much time had passed, we are both startled by the sound of the bell ringing, signaling to move to the next class. Sam and I both exit the cafeteria, moving on to our final two classes of the day.
Taking my usual seat at the front corner of the classroom, I take out my phone and scroll through my feeds, waiting for class to start. Not too long after, Mrs. Gibbs walks into the room, taking her place at the front of the class. "Alright everyone, I know how excited you all must be to be starting implicit differentiation today," the class lets out groans in protest, "but before that, I'd like to introduce a new student joining us today." She nods to the back corner off the room, opposite my seat, and I turn to look in that direction. "Class, I'd like you to meet Charlie Thompson, joining us all the way from Maryland."
My eyes rest on the new student, and I can't help but stare a little. Charlie shyly looks around the room and nods at the rest of the class, his blue eyes flickering in the light. He runs a hand through his thick black hair before looking back down at his desk. I hold my gaze a little longer, scanning over his slightly tan complexion, all the way down to his tight white t-shirt and blue jeans. "God, he's gorgeous", I think to myself. Turning my attention back to Mrs. Gibbs, I try to concentrate on the lesson and not the gorgeous new guy.
After the last bell I head outside to meet Sam by my car. "Oh my gosh, did you hear about the new guy? Every girl in my history class was practically drooling over him." Sam says as she gets into the passenger side of my black mustang.
"I don't blame them, and have you seen him? He's gorgeous."
Sam glances across the parking lot, "Speak of the devil." I turn to where she is looking and my eyes land on Charlie, getting into an older red truck, still looking as attractive as when I first laid eyes on him.
"It's about time an actual attractive guy came to this awful school. He's got to be the hottest guy at this place." Sam says as we both watch Charlie drive out of the parking lot.
"You're totally right on that one." I reply as I make my way out of the parking lot and head home.
"We're home!" I shout into my house as Sam and I make our way inside, heading up to my bedroom. We throw our backpacks on the floor and I flop on my bed and Sam takes a seat in my rocking chair in the corner.
"Hey girls," my mom exclaims as she enters my room. "How was your last first day?" She takes a seat next to me on my bed.
"Not too bad, I have the usual amount of annoying people in my class, but other than that it was pretty good."
Sam pipes up, "Oh don't forget about the new guy."
My mom raises her eyebrows. "New guy?"
I roll my eyes. "Oh right, the new guy. His name is Charlie and he moved down here from Maryland. That's pretty much all we know about him."
