"What?!" This time I couldn't hold it in. Cool and composed my ass! "Training?! Is that necessary? You have trained me for the past seven years!"
"Yes, yes, I know." Uncle Rajesh said calmly. "But this time you will be right there with him, taking the reigns. Think of him as an experienced advisor."
"I've got experienced advisors. They are called the board of directors, and are seated right here!" I responded.
"I'll have to agree." One of the men, Mr Rogers said. "Miss Ilan is more than capable of taking on the position. And we are here when necessary."
"Yeah and Val is a great leader already. I'm sure she won't have any problems." Luan, marketing manager added.
This comment was followed by a chorus of agreements throughout and I sat up a little straighter in my chair, trying to hide my smile. I was proud of the impression I was having on my employees. Yes, my employees.
I shot a dirty look at Derek only to find that he was amongst the people agreeing.
Geez! He doesn't even know me, how can he agree! So obviously hating him was not an option. How was I supposed to keep myself from jumping his bones?
"Yes, I know that." Uncle Rajesh answered. I could see that he was starting to get irritated with the situation. "But the shareholders only have 38 percent of the shares. We have 62 which means that your decision overrules that of the others. Since we, your mother, aunt and I, are giving you all the rights to decisions, I need to make sure that you're completely ready."
"But Mr Moosa, I really think its unnecessary to.." Mr Devonshire tried to say.
"My decision is final. Meeting adjourned." My uncle said grabbing his file and walking out of the room.
Shock was an understatement. Everyone in the room looked like they had just been slapped. Then one by one they left the room, leaving me with my thoughts.
One year of training. One whole year with Derek. My mind isn't strong enough for this. Hell, my body had lost the battle as soon as he had walked through the door.
I slumped back in my seat and put my head on the table. I could do this. This was my legacy and I'd be damned if I came off looking incompetent to take up my birthright. I'd do whatever it took to assure my family that I was ready.
To make my father proud.
I hadn't noticed that I wasn't alone in the room until I heard someone clear their throat. Derek was standing at the other side of the table looking at me with a lopsided smile that made me want to kiss him.
I cleared my thoughts and put on a professional mask.
"How can I help you Mr Woods?"
He sat down on the chair and leaned forward. "Look. I just wanted to let you know that I'm just here to help. I'm not gunning for your position or anything like that, and I don't want this to be awkward after..."
"Why would it be awkward?" I cut him off. "We don't know each other for it to be awkward and we are professionals. You're here to train me and I'm ready to be trained."
So ready to be trained...
He raised an eyebrow and I abruptly stood up. That sounded so much better in my head. 'I'm ready to be trained'? Really?
I made a move to walk out the door but he grabbed my arm pulling me towards him sending a pool of heat right through me.
Aiy how was I going to survive this day, this year!
"Valeria." He said softly "There is no need to be so hostile. We'll be working closely together, we have to be in sync."
I swear I almost fainted. He smelled so good. He looked so good. He was soooo good!
I composed myself. Pushing my arm out of his grasp. "Its Miss Ilan to you, and I'm not being hostile. This is just how I am"
I walked out and sped into my office, locking it and cranking the aircon to the lowest temperature.
Did he remember? All that talk about being in sync and working closely together, was that flirting? Or was he just saying it in a platonic kind of way?
I needed Ben and Liv, asap!
