People crowd the room inch by inch. Some dancing, some drinking, some drinking while dancing, either way they're drinking. Once Jenna handed me a beer Meadow left with her boyfriend and Jenna got lost in the large energetic dancing crowd of nobodies. I tried making a bee line for the back door with no such luck. The crowd is just too thick to fight through.

"Be adventurous! Do something you would never do in a million years! Be brave, be bold, have fun!" Was the last thing I heard Jenna say before winking and walking away from me and onto what seems to be a dance floor. For all I know she's upstairs right now doing God bows what with the first guys she talked to. Meadow is definitely upstairs for Matt, her boyfriend, and a bottle of scotch.

I take a swig of the dark bitter liquid in my red solo plastic cup looking for a way out. A way to fresh air. I slowly inch onto the dance floor staying close to the back and quickly find myself in front of the double doors leading to the balcony looking over the ocean. I slide outside and am engulfed in fresh cool air.

Now if I could just stay out here in peace...

I lean as far up against the railing without cutting my air supply and take a deep breath of fresh air, well fresher than what's inside. I take the last swig of beer and feel the sting going down my throat. Not pleasant.

"Oh shit, hey, um sorry I didn't think anyone would be out here considering there's a party going on just inside...hi."

Wait what.

I whip around to see a tallish man with dirty blonde hair standing by the door. Apparently he's light on his feet, or maybe the beer is starting to kick in.

"Um...hi. Sorry I just, my heads a bit fogged up right now my brain isn't exactly processing anything as fast as it usually would," I sputter out.

"It's cool," he laughs with a small, but bright, smile, "I'm Marcus."

"Merideth, or Mer, I'm usually referred to as Mer," I respond shaking his hand.

"What about Deth? People ever call you Deth? No probably not," there's that damn smile again.

I shake my head laughing. No one has ever even thought about calling me Deth, not that I know of anyway.

"Okay then, Deth," big emphasis on the 'Deth', "well if you want to be alone I can just go back inside. I mean if you want to totally up to you."

I think about this, someone that I don't know to talk to, he knows nothing about me and if I don't want him to know something I don't have to tell him, hell he can stay!

"No no it's fine! Really. I'm just getting some fresh air. You can stay!" I say. In response I get a smile and he walks to the rail, just about five inches from where I stand. The ocean glistens in the moonlight and it feels almost like a movie, except instead of standing next to a boyfriend I'm standing next to a complete stranger.

"So Deth, Why are you at this party? It's clearly obvious you don't want to be here."

"What? How is it obvious?"

"You're all alone on a deck outside of a very loud party hat you could get so much out of yet you're talking to someone you just met, pretty obvious."

I roll my eyes, "okay so maybe I don't what to be here, so be it, but my friends kinda dragged me here. So why are you here? You're doing exactly what I'm doing."

"Brothers party, couldn't find a way out of coming."

"Say you have a date. Works for me."

"Probably won't work to someone whose married with his wife out of town now would it?" He holds up his left hand to show a legit wedding ring.
