Chapter 4:Ordinary People

(September 8th 2010)
It's the following day and Alaric and Cass are taking Elena to see the cavern.

"So, the Lockwoods really have no idea that these tunnels are underneath their property?"Elena ask's the two.

"Careful where you shine that thing. Bats hate the light"Alaric tells her.

"Wait, what?"Elena ask's.

Damon secretly comes up and whispers behind her.

"Elena!"Damon says.

She turns around and sees him.

"Boo!"he shouts and she jumps from fright.

"Ah! God, Damon!"Elena says scared.

"Scaredy-cat!"Damon says.

"Just ignore him. That's what I do"Cass tells her.

"So, you really can't get in?"Elena ask's.

"No. Seems even the ancient Lockwoods were anti-vampire"Damon tells her.

"At least they were sensible"Cass tells him.

"What do you mean, ancient?"Elena ask's.

"See for yourself"Damon says gesturing towards the cavern.

They walk further into the tunnel and see carvings on the wall.

"Well, this is as far as I get to go"Damon says stuck outside.

Cass shines her flashlight at the wall and sees a whole bunch of carvings.

"What is all this?"Elena ask's.

"Well, as far as I can tell, it's a story. In simple, archaeological terms, it's a really, really old story"Alaric starts.

Cass points at the wall.

"That right there, is the moon cycle"she starts.

Cass then points at another drawing.

"A man, a wolf"Cass tells her.

Elena looks at the drawing.

"A werewolf?"Elena ask's.

"Yeah, it's the "Lockwood Diaries: Pictionary-Style"Damon tells her.

"I don't understand. I thought the Lockwoods came here with the Original Founders in the 1860s"Elena says.

"I don't know. Maybe the Lockwoods did, but according to this wall, these werewolves have been here a lot longer than that"Cass explains.

"How long?"Elena ask's.

"Long. It gets better. Show her, Ric. Cass."Damon says.

"Names. They're not native. They're written in Runic, a Viking script"Alaric explains.

"Vikings?"Elena ask's.

"This name here, I translated it and it reads Niklaus"Cass explains.

"Klaus"Elena says.

Cass shines her flashlight at two more names.

"And Elijah...and Rebekah"Cass continues.

"These are the names of the Original Family?"Elena ask's.

"Carved into a cave that's been here since way before the founding of Mystic Falls. Or even the entire New World, for that matter"Cass explains.

"Okay, this has gotta be one of Klaus's fakes"Elena says.

"That's what I said"Damon says piping in.

"That could be true, except the last name up here made us think otherwise"Alaric says.
