Human promises are so temporary. I can offer you something eternal.
Blood is pooling at my feet
and creating a strong metallic smell that assaults my nose. The cruel woman in front of me swishes her whip back and forth. She likes to play with her victims according to the investigators. I'm one of many who will meet their untimely death at her merciless hands.
She pulls the whip back and hits me hard across the face, a scream erupted from my lungs involuntarily. With a swollen eye and a gash running through my cheek I could barely make out her words as my head started spinning.
"One wish left my love."
"Pl... please take my family...away from here. Somewhere safe..." my broken words caused her to falter.
"What did you say child?"
"Make sure my family is not harmed." I pleaded as snot and tears dripped down my mutilated face. My body was shaking but I lifted my head and focused my good eye on her. In this last moment I knew she would grant me my wish.
"A genie is good for 3 wishes. The problem dear..." she says as she brushes my matted hair away from my face " is that some people don't specify. Many requests are quite vague. This being your last request I offer you a chance to change it." Her eyes gleamed in excitement.
"Genie. I wish...for you to make my family the highest people in this world. No law, no crime, no pain, will ever...touch them. They will live like gods. In exchange for my life you will give them their lives."
"A vain request if you ask me. And yet, it's oddly humble too. Most people beg for their own lives to be enriched and beautiful. You beg not for your own but for your family." The genie stretched her long fingers out and took my hand. She dragged my own fingers in the blood at my feet and placed the bloody fingerprint on a sheet of paper.
Signed,
A wish for a life.
