Before Abu 'Ali ibn-e Sina was even twenty years of age, he had already learned everything there was to know in those days. He was the most learned person of his times in religion, natural sciences, and mathematics.

One day, he went to Abu 'Ali ibn Maskooya, a very famous scholar. Arrogantly, he threw a walnut to him and asked him to work out its area.

Ibn Maskooya gave him a few booklets by Taharat al A'raq on the importance of correct behaviour. He said: "Mend your ways and then I will work out the area of the walnut. You are more in need of improvement than I am of determining the area of this walnut."

Ibn Sina felt ashamed of himself and allowed this rebuke to guide him throughout his life.
