Sora sighed as she trudged through the forest, jumping at a fox's bark. She had been lost for days, wandering through these eerie woods with her hope of finding her way out slowly dying. She had never felt so alone in her life. Her older brother would be by her side at all times, always giving her gentle advice, protecting her, or just keeping her company in general. She shivered at the cold emptiness where Shayde usually stood. She missed him, wishing she could just call out his name and make him appear. She angrily kicked a small stick in her way, cursing to herself as she walked along the never ending path. After what she thought was a few hours, the sun began to go down. Sora's legs were near dead, and her mind felt fuzzy with exhaustion. She glanced around, hoping to find a decent place to spend the night, eventually letting her gaze fall on an ancient oak tree. She shrugged, figuring a tree would be safest in case of a wandering predator. She quickly climbed the oak, settling in a wide, deep fork. Sora saw what she thought was another person, but she let sleep overtake her before she could think about it.
...
Sora cuddled into her brother's hoodie, sighing in relief as she thought the past few days were nothing but a terrible nightmare. She slowly opened her eyes, confused to find that the hoodie wasn't Shayde's. She studied it carefully. It was a dark gray cloak, the fabric light and soft. It smelled of rosemary and clove, two herbs commonly used by someone who didn't want to be found.  Wait... Her ears flipped back suddenly as she realized that it was an assassin's cloak. She glanced around fearfully around, expecting someone to be holding a knife to her throat. She peered into a suspicious-looking tree, jumping as the leaves shivered slightly. "If your trying to hide from me, you should stay out of direct sunlight." She called out to the monster hiding vainly in the tree. Sora heard a snort of amusement, and almost fell out of the tree in shock as the monster jumped from his perch to her tree, about a ten foot gap between the two oaks. It was a well-built male, with short brown hair, large curved horns, black and gold wings, and gold eyes. He wore a simple black T-shirt and black camo pants. He also wore a small silver chain on his neck. He smiled at Sora, his eyes soft and friendly. "Why are you out here alone? You seem young for an Outcast." She frowned in confusion, her wariness forgotten. "Outcast? No, I got lost about a week ago." He seemed surprised, his gaze a mixture of fascination and concern. "Would you like to come with me? It may snow tonight, and blizzards are are possible 'round here. You could freeze." She moved away a bit, glancing fearfully at the crossbow attached to his back. His expression flashed with understanding. He sat down on the tree limb, inching closer to Sora. "What's your name, hun? I'm Garthen." She blushed slightly when he called her "hun", finding herself drawn to his welcoming golden gaze. "I'm Sora." She noticed she was gripping the cloak tightly, relaxing and taking a deep breath, looking around. "Where do you live? I've been wandering for days, and all I have seen are trees." He chuckled. "You've been walking in circles, you know. The forest is only about ten miles in diameter. Were on the edge, close to my camp." He got up, holding out a hand out to Sora. "Would you like to see it?" She smiled, taking his hand. "Of course."
