Chapter 2

The Start of Something New

Jasmines P.O.V

I walk into class and start getting ready for class as the bell rings. Ms.Drenlan comes to the front of the room and welcomes us, "Hello class, please get your notebooks out and go over your notes from yesterday." At that moment a boy named Ben comes into the class, late. "Excuse me young man, why are you late?" Ms.Drenlan asked. "My bus was late" Ben answered."Do you have a pass?" she asked. Ben stopped in his tracks, "I do not, I am sorry." Ms.Drenlan looks at him dissapointedly. He goes to the only empty chair in the class. The chair next to Jasmines. Jasmine hears laughter from all of the students around her, getting annoyed. Ms. Drenlan puts Bens name on the tardy list. The thing that bothered Jasmine the most, is that Ms. Drenlan didnt care to stop the laughter. Ben was being bullied right in front of her and she didnt do anything about it.  Spitballs from all over the room were thrown at Ben. Jasmine could tell that he was getting annoyed, she was too. Ben turned around and asked, "Will you please stop?" He was trying to be patient. A kid from the other side if the room thew one more spitball. This ticked Jasmine off, he asked for them to stop. Jasmine wanted to just walk over to everyone who bullied him in that class and beat them up. "STOP!", Ben screamed catching Jasmine off guard. Evreyone stoped talking and stared at Ben. Then the whispering began and Ms. Drenlan walked towards Ben. Ms. Drelan, looking furious, tried dragging Ben out of the classroom. Right before she did, the bell rang, "You got lucky, just wait,"she said glaring Ben down. Jasmine gathered all of her things and began walking to her next class with Mr. Floid. Then she started thinking. Why did she feel so bad for Ben? Why did she want to protect him? Its never happened before, her wanting to protect someone so bad. He's just another kid who gets picked on. Why did she feel so...weird? It was happieness mixed with something else, but what. She got to class and saw Ben sitting in the back corner reading a book. She walked towards him and saw that it was a science book. "Nice book," she said autting down next to him. Ben put the book away quickly. "Dont worry, I'm not here to pick on you, you seem pretty cool," she said meaning it. "Oh thanks, how are you." he said awkwardly. "Um, good I guess!" she said. The bell rang and class started. Ben stared at his book all through the class, not answering anything.  "So class, if x=3 and it was multiplied by 6 what would y be?" Evreyone said 18 except Ben who seemed like he was in his own world. Mr. Floid came over, "I'll be takeing that." Mr. Floid said taking the book from Ben. "Hmm, dimensions?" Mr. Floid said, "seems pretty stupid" he says throwing the book to the ground. The whole class laughed while Jasmine stared at him in pity . After everyone was focused and the class resumed Jasmine understood what feeling she had. It was the feeling of friendship. She had friends but not real ones, she didn't even like her "friends." As the class was ending she grabed a hold of Bens hand and smiled. He looked up at her and returned the smile shyly. Then the bell rang...
