A/N: I just realized that there are some chapters that are apparently not getting as many reads as the ones after them. Because I use explicit language, readers have to add the story to their libraries to unmute the explicit chapter! If you've been reading and nothing seems to make sense, this is why.
Making the decision to move all the way from Chicago to LA was not easy, not in the slightest, but after receiving a paid writing internship in the center of Downtown LA, I decided that I would be an idiot not to go.
My best friend, David, lives up there and told me he doesn't mind me living with him until I have enough money to actually get my own place to live. We've always been close since we're only a year apart, and he's always been the brother I never had. Growing up living only 20 minutes apart meant that we were constantly with each other. Although we didn't go to the same schools since we lived in different districts, after school hangouts and and weekends at each other's houses were always a must. Our moms worked together at the same company since before we were even born, and they are still inseparable best friends.
My phone starts vibrating on my bed while I take a last glance at my now empty room. I rush to answer seeing that David is the one calling.
"Hey, bub, are you ready? I'll be there in 10 minutes to help you with the movers." He tells me. He flew back to Chicago the night before since he knew I needed some help packing and loading everything onto the movers' trucks, and I couldn't appreciate him more for that. "Yeah, I'm ready. Can we please eat before the flight I'm fucking starving." I whine into the phone. Our flight was scheduled at 10pm, and it was only 5pm. "Yeah, for sure. Portillos sound good?" He asked, knowing that was one of our go-to spots growing up. "Cheeseburger with a side of cheese fries and a strawberry milkshake?" I add, smiling excitedly. "You know it!" He yells into the phone. We say our goodbyes, and I end the call.
I patiently wait for the movers to come pick up all of the boxes. They should be here within the next 15 minutes. The house is silent and empty besides the living room TV playing That 70s Show on it. I said bye to my parents this morning before they went off to work. I'm gonna miss them more than anything. I'm 22 and still live with my parents. I never moved out for college since I went to a University 10 minutes away from my house. Although I'm scared to be on my own in a whole new city, I can't wait to start a new life and meet new people.
An hour later, everything was packed up and ready to go. David and I were heading to Portillos since we were about to die of hunger. "I've missed you so much." He sighs, looking at me. My heart hurts because I feel the same way. "I missed you too. The FaceTime calls aren't sufficient." I laughed. David chuckled along as we pulled into a parking spot. Even though he moved literally across the country, we still manage to talk everyday. Whether it be a couple text messages or hour-long FaceTime calls, we always found a way to stay close and update each other on our lives.
After ordering our usual, we choose a booth in the corner to sit in. "Okay, let me give you the run-down on everything. Obviously you watch the videos, so you know everyone's names and stuff right?" He asked. I nodded. I kept up with all of his uploads, and his friends seemed super fun and friendly. "You're gonna be staying in the guest room across from Natalie's room, is that okay?" He asked. "Yes, David. I'd appreciate you letting me stay on your roof." I laugh. He giggled at my joke, but I wanted him to know I really appreciated his help with everything.
"Our flight should land at 12am pacific, so if you wanna just go to bed, I suggest you don't. It won't happen. My friends are going to be drunk and partying all fucking night, so just join in and meet everyone." He advises. I nod my head, an eager grin forming on my face.
"David, I don't sleep that early anyway. I have a week before I start the internship, so I'm planning to get shit faced as soon as we land." I reply.
"Okay, one more thing. Whatever you do, please don't sleep with any of my friends." He says. I nearly choke on my food as I start laughing. "David, I'm a fucking virgin, what makes you think I'll sleep with your friends?" I roll my eyes.
"Oh yeah, I forgot you were a prude," he laughs at me. I reach across the table to punch him in the arm. "I'm not a prude!" I exclaim.
After our meal, we head straight for O'hare. I'm fucking ready.
